Event Description
Review Date : March 4, 2020
Embassy Review : Our interview time was at 12:45. We arrived at 12:30 and got checked in quickly. The waiting room was crowded with a naturalization ceremony apparently taking place that afternoon and the calling of names/numbers seemed a little chaotic. We waited about 25 minutes and we were then back with the interviewer. Our interviewer was friendly although down to business. As the petitioner I was told by our attorney that I wouldn't be asked a lot of questions but out of the gate the question of how our relationship started was directed at me and then after I was getting asked other questions too. We both told our story and answered some more conversational type questions but nothing that was too unexpected. I was asked why I haven't added my husband to the deed to our house which was the most surprising question since I don't know many people that go through those extra steps when they get married. But knowing we will likely move seemed to be a satisfactory answer for her. She then went through the application to verbally ask my husband some of the same questions that had been completed on the form. She then asked what we had brought for her and we gave her about 7 or so items showing our combining of lives and then that was it. Total interview time was only around 20 minutes. Our attorney asked her as we left if she had a decision and she said she needed to review things further and that we should get the decision in the mail sometime next week. Ugh. javascript:emoticon('') We checked the status online the following day though and it had actually been approved the same day!. javascript:emoticon('')
Harassment Level : Very Good

Hello Cindy, I would like to ask you a question. We are waiting for NOA2 so that we can set up the interview in Nairobi. Ugandans have two birth certificates. Which birth certificate did you and Raphael submit during your interview. His long birth certificate or the short one?
CO & RK on 2019-03-14 said:
SO SORRY!! I am just seeing this now. This was the one reason our visa process took longer than expected. My fiance had a birth certificate that was the "short form" but he needed the "long form" that is issued from the NIRA office (National Identification and Registration Authority). That ended up taking him almost a month to get because of offices closing around the Christmas and New Year's holiday). Definitely make sure to bring the Long Form with you. But if you only have the short form by the time the interview happens, still attend it with what you have. In our case, we were approved pending receipt of the NIRA form. As soon as they got that they gave him the visa. Hope this isn't too late!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
