Hi, Congratulations! I am new on the website and wanted to ask you a clarification. In each timeline I see the Section "Case completed at NVC". Does that correspond to the day that NVC notified that you are documentarily qualified? Did you wait 4 months since then to have your interview scheduled? Thanks.

Hi Aale! Thank you! I interpreted "Case Completed at NVC" to mean the day I got notification that they were done processing and waiting for the interview to be scheduled, so that's what I meant when I reported it. There was a delay between "NVC Received" and "Case Completed at NVC" in my case. I should have had my case completed over a month earlier, but I was told to resubmit some scans because some of them weren't scanned right-side-up. Even though the scans show sideways on the screen, they could click to rotate them, or print them and turn the paper so they are right side up, but nooooo....they won't go through that trouble, and instead make you re-scan and resubmit. So, if that prevents you from going through the same nonsense, I hope it'll help! Good luck to you!

Thanks for the quick response! I have a similar case. On August 12th I received the email from NVC saying they were done processing my case, that I am documentarily qualified and that they would start working with the Consulate to schedule my interview. But no response yet! I hope now that my interview will be scheduled for January, knowing that cases like yours - approved from NVC in July - had the interview scheduled in December. Thanks again!

I would say that's likely, although it depends on the Consulate too. If you are interviewing in Montreal, then yeah, you'll probably get a date in January. I will also say though that we didn't get a letter...we got an email to just my (the petitioner's) email address, even though it was addressed to my beneficiary! And they only gave us 3 week's notice. So we only had a few days to choose from to get the medical exam done in time that the results would be ready for pickup before the interview. Make sure to bring to the interview two photocopies of anything they request photocopies of (even though it says 1). I did this to be safe, and I'm glad I did! Also note that the Montreal Consulate moved to a new location last month. We found this out the day before the interview. The interview is only a few minutes long...the interviewers are really bogged down since the current administration made interviews mandatory for EVERYONE but didn't increase the consular staff. When you line up outside, someone will come out and tell everyone to go away and get coffee, and that it won't affect your turn. Don't listen to that. Let everyone else go get coffee and hold your ground. We did, and we were the 3rd couple in. The people who went to get coffee were in the back of the line and were probably there for hours.

Thanks so much for all the information! Yes my interview will be in Montreal, I really hope to receive the email soon. Also, to clarify, I will take advantage of your experience to ask you a few more things: - Did you take your medical exams in Montreal? If yes, how long did they take to have them ready to pick up? - Does the petitioner have to be present during the interview too?

Hi again! My spouse did indeed take the medical exam in Montreal. It was a nice facility and we were in and out in about 2 hours from start to finish. They first will have a sit down with a doctor, who will ask some basic questions and feel around for hernias or whatever...it was pretty non-invasive. Ours were ready to be picked up about 3 days later, but we were out of town, so we picked them up on Monday morning, Dec. 2nd, ahead of our Tuesday interview. They were in a sealed envelope that we were not permitted to open. However, they told us that if there was anything concerning in there, that they would have called us. The petitioner does not have to be present, and in most cases is barred, from the interview. I waited outside with my spouse until everyone was called in, and then I went back to the hotel and waited. My spouse was back within an hour!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
