Consulate Review: Frankfurt, Germany
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 2, 2018
Embassy Review : Soo in short: I went to the consulate even though I was way too early. Thought maybe I can walk around a bit more to kill time. However, when I arrived a little more than an hour early two employees told me to already get in line. They said it's no problem and if I wait for an hour the line will be really long. So i got in line (right line for immigrant visas) and it was all quite easy. First window needs your appointment letter and the passport. Then you are sent to an officer to empty all your pockets, take off all you have like cellphone, watch etc and put it in a transparent plastic bag. Afterwards you may enter the building and have to pass the metal detector. If you brought smth they don't approve they take it and hold it for you. All other stuff except papers you had to put and keep in the transparent plastic bag. Next station was another building where you had to take everything out of the bag and leave the plastic bag in a box. Don't ask me for the reason 😅. Anyway with all your stuff you enter then a big hall. A security guy at the front nehind a counter told me after he saw what i was here for (immigrant visa cr1) to go across the hall to the window 22. There would only two people waiting in front of me and after them I should report. The other two were quite quickly done and I went to the cashier. He just took my passport, 1 picture and he asked for my Traveldoc registration where I registered for the transfer of the passport. Confused me alot but basically he asked only for the appointment confirmation again. Wasn't the only one who didn't get that as i observed later 😅. Anyway, after that step he told me to sit again and wait until my number is called somewhere at the window 18-21. He would hand over my file to the caseworkers there. Took a long time but finally it was my turn and the young lady there asked mostly for my documents and informed me about my rights in us etc. She was quite inexperienced and slightly annoyed that I knew everything already 😅. She checked my us address etc. And also asked for my wifes w2s since nvc didn't transfer them. She told me to sit and wait for my interview again. After short time my number pinged at her window again. She forget to give me some information papers and also informed me I will be issued a new ssn without restrictions. A that the longest most annoying waiting time started. Sitting there for atleast an hour before even the first interview started (it was also just one lady doing the interviews). Finally the window opened and after the other 2 interviews I was called to the window. The interview was more like small talk. She asked my marriage date. I told her and she started working on the pc. She looked through my stuff and handed me the original docs. She apologized that it takes so long and said the software isn't made by people who know the process and work. She further asked me if I ever lived together with my wife. I told her I did for three month and also visited her later as my esta stamps should prove. She nodded. She asked me if I or her have kids I told her and she just asked me if the kids are accepting me or if they cause troubles. I told her they accept me. Then she said I will recieve my passport within 1 week and we are done. So all together no reason to worry. Just bring a book or smth non electronic to kill the waiting time
Rating : Very Good

NVC expedite when case was shown as ready - went to US before on a J1 which might have reduced the backgroundcheck time

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
