Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 26, 2018
Embassy Review : My interview with US Consulate, Montreal was the easiest part of the whole immigration process. My appointment was for 9 am and tried to get early as 7:20 but was told by the consulate guard to come back at 8:30.
I came back at 8:20 and was allowed to get in. And just like as what other VJ members have said, got a laminated number (#17) and then security check and asked to go to 19th floor. There I seated on the side of immigrants waiting area and compiled all the requirements according to what was asked from the laminated number.
After half an hour I was called on window #3 to submit the requirements but not all. Since I submitted the documents through NVC (scanned docs) they just asked for original police certificates, marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport, passport size photos and copy of latest W2 (2017). That’s it.... I brought tons of original and copies of other documents from myself and spouse but they didn’t ask at all....

Then after another half an hour was called again on window #9 by a very friendly guy and made an oath and double checked my fingerprints done earlier..... then asked the questions:
Where and when did you get married?
When did you move to Canada?
What do you do?

Then “congratulations....... you will receive your visa within 1-2 weeks”. And was given a blue form saying “Welcome to the USA “ Overall all time, 3 hours waiting at the consulate and 2 minutes for the interview.

Passport with immigrant visa stamped picked up at Canada Post Office after 3 days....... NEXT: my experience at POE... stay tune.... 👍👌🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
