Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 6, 2018
Embassy Review : I accompanied my wife (beneficiary) to the interview. We arrived around 6:50 for a 7:20 appointment. There are two lines outside the consulate - one for immigrant and one for non-immigrant visas. Around 7am they let the immigrant visa applicants inside and started reviewing our documentation. They ask for the documents in a particular order (which I believe you can find on the consulate site). The attendant checks your paperwork after rearranging and asks you to sit. Around 7:45 they started calling people up to a window to review the paperwork in detail. This part was in Portuguese. After this review, we sat and waited again to be called for the interview. I was able to enter with my wife for the interview. The interview itself was quick, hardly felt like more than 5 minutes. It was all very orderly, although it felt like it took forever to get to the actual interview. We were approved and out the door by 8:45am. Read the website and follow their checklist - they did not ask for anything beyond what was listed. I overheard some conversations where people did not seem to have the documents requested, such as photographs and copies. Bring a copy of everything. There are places just outside the consulate to get photos and make copies.

Rating : Very Good

POE Review: JFK
Event Description
Entry Date : 2018-08-18
Embassy Review : Arrived at JFK on a Saturday morning around 5:45am. We were in business class and were among the first in line at Immigration. I (petitioner) accompanied my wife to the visitor / visa line. We submitted everything via CEAC and did not receive "packet IV" back from the consult. Her visa and admission form (normal piece of paper, received unsealed from the consult) state "IV docs in CCD."

I handed over both our passports to the agent and stated that my wife was entering for the first time on her CR1 visa. He asked for our packet; I replied that it's in the CCD system, showed him the line "IV docs in CCD", but also stated that I have copies of everything from our interview. He was unfamiliar with the electronic system, but friendly, and accompanied us to secondary. At secondary the agent said "see here, IV docs in CCD, they're in the system. they're all good- give them the admission stamp and they can go."

We were done in less time than it took to walk from the plane to customs.. (almost 10 minutes!). Nice end to a 13.5 month process.

Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
