Comments : ***1) Regarding NOA2 - I had to call NVC to check status, received case number and NVC Invoice number. I waited on hold for approximately 35 mins, but was given the information over the phone. I received the letter about 1 week after my call.
***2) Regarding Instructions (pkt 3) - After verifying on CEAC that our case was "READY" status, we e-mailed the consulate in Lima to receive the instruction letter. We waited 3 wks and my fiance in Lima never received the letter. After e-mailing the consulate with information required for an inquiry, we received the letter electronically the following day. If sending an inquiry, please be certain to title subject line INQUIRY-(visa case number)-(last name of applicant). The first paragraph must include petitioner full name, applicant full name, type of visa, and contact information for applicant (e-mail, cell phone).
***3) Regarding Embassy Appointment. Arrive EARLY. I recommend 45 min-1 hr minimum. When you arrive to the consulate, you will first confirm your arrival and then go through the security line. Only bring what you need for the appointment. Do NOT bring any electronic devices or even a purse - you will not be able to take it into the embassy. They will make you leave the line to store your purse/devices at a place that is in front of the embassy (costs S/8). Be prepared and dress appropriately. Review the checklist that they send you and make certain you have all the required documents. We watched people that came unprepared sent home and unhappy. Plan for at least 4 hrs.

Comments : 2018-10-25: After checking case status on the USCIS site, our case was updated to "On October 25, 2018, we mailed your new card for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number XXXX, to the address you gave us." So happy!!!

2018-10-22: Interview appointment was at 1:45PM. We arrived at 1:15PM and was able to park close to the building on the street. We put enough coins in the parking meter for 2 hours.
Upon arrival to security, we were asked for our appointment letter. Security was like going through airport security, shoes off, cell phones separate, no metal, etc. We had no issues and was directed to go up to the 2nd floor security and check in.
We showed our appointment letter to the security upstairs and then checked in with a person at window 4. She took our WI identifications and the appointment letter. We were directed to the waiting area for interviews.
We waited approximately 45 mins for our appointment (called in shortly after 2PM for a 1:45PM appointment). The IO called my husband's name and escorted us back to her office.
Once in her office, there was another person (gentleman) present. She introduced herself and explained that she is in training. The interview started with the swearing in. The IO asked for identification, which we provided our passports, WI ID, SSN and my husband's EAD card. She was having difficulty with the computer and could not get the program to work, I assume for his photo and fingerprints. The Senior IO instructed her to go on to the questions and come back to the computer items later.
Next, she asked questions directly from the I-485 form that we had submitted. Literally, 85 % of the application and marked a checkmark next to each item answered consistently with the application in red ink. After she went through the I-485 form, she asked my husband to sign the form again to validate the answers provided were truthful.
She then asked me a few questions, how we met, how many times I visited Peru, and how do my sons get along my husband. The last thing she asked for was if we have evidence of a life together. I gave her joint insurance (life/auto/health), beneficiary document, and a photo presentation from the last year of places visited with friends and family. The only other evidence provided was related to his employment. When she asked if he was working, I gave the employment contract and his first two pay statements.
The Senior IO nodded to her, then the computer seemed to be working again. She took my husband's photo and scanned his index fingers for fingerprints. She then concluded the interview stating that we would know something within 90 days, and if we have not heard anything to contact them. I asked why a decision cant be provided now, and she said she needed time to review the file since she is in training. I could tell she wanted to give us an answer, but was not in a position to provide it. The Senior IO then said when you get your green card, it will be valid for two years. I asked two questions, 1) do we need to apply to remove restrictions 90 days before our 2nd anniversary, to which the Senior IO responded no, the green card will be valid for 2 years from date of approval; and 2) since we have no decision today on the green card, does my husband need to apply for an extension of his EAD since it expires in Jan 2019. The reply from the trainee was its up to you, I cant answer that.
The people were nice and polite, it was just frustrating to not have a decision.

Event Description

Embassy Review : Our experience/observations:
1) Arrive early. 45-60 mins minimum. There are two lines to go through, first to check in for the appointment, and security. Personally, its stressful when I am not on time so arriving early helps keep the stress to a minimum.
2) Dress appropriately. Wear something that is conservative, not too casual or overly formal. Business casual is good. No short skirts, t-shirts/jeans.
3) Prepare for the interview. Please make sure you have all your documents in order for the consulate interview. Print the list the consulate sends you and check off each item in order, at minimum the night before. For our interview, we had all of our documents organized in the order of the check list, and also brought copies of our I-129F petition just in case.
4) Be patient. Plan for 4 hours of waiting. We waited almost 2 hours before we were called the first time to submit the documents for the appointment (police records, medical exam, I-134), then waited another hour to meet with the consular officer.
5) US Fiance should be present. This is a significant event for your relationship, and it is important to be supportive for each other. We always planned for us to attend the interview together, so I made sure I was in Peru to be with him for the interview. In addition, the consular officer asked me questions also so I feel it was a benefit for not only emotional support, but to show the CO we are committed.
6) Frequent visits. This is a plus! I have been to Peru to visit my fiance 8 times over the last 14 months which was a pleasant surprise to the CO (he actually smiled and asked me really...wow!)
7) Know your dates. I know that some people are not good with dates - my finace is one of those people! He made sure he studied ahead of time. He was asked about dates, when we met, when he was divorced, when we started our relationship.
Both the people we met with were direct, but nice. We spent a total of 5-10 mins with each person which I attribute to us being prepared. We watched others who did not prepare or were missing documents be sent away. It was tough to watch that and be waiting for our turn, but we stayed positive!

Finally, only bring what is necessary for the appointment. Do not bring cell phones, tablets, purses as you will not be allowed to enter with them. There is a place outside the embassy to store items which costs S/8.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
