Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 7, 2018
Embassy Review : I went with Christopher to the interview. We arrived at around 7:45 with our appointment being at 8:30, there was already a line waiting to get in and we 7th in line. The doors opened at 8 am. They allowed us in a few at a time, we were given numbers and information, passed through a security check (they will hold your electronics for you, if you do bring them, they are not allowed inside). We followed the instructions given to us and went up an elevator and came to a waiting room. After about 10 minutes, our number was called and Chris went to a window.

We had already put our paperwork in the requested order (we brought ALL paperwork that they had asked for from any communication they sent us), but they didn't need the majority of what we brought with us. The person Chris saw made sure all the paperwork was in order, had him sign some papers, took his fingerprints, and told Chris to have a seat. We waited nervously about 15-20 minutes until he was called to a second window.

Kinds of questions they asked him: Where we met, how long was our relationship, what his favorite thing was about me, was he nervous about moving, how the trips to see each other were divided/why/how often did we see each other, how long it had been since we had seen each other last. It was more or less polite small talk with an interested stranger. The only 'proof of relationship' stuff she was interested in at the interview was seeing pictures of us together on our recent trips. Then she handed him a packet of papers and said you're good and he came over and gave me the good news! All in all, a quick, nice experience. Everyone was very kind and we were in and out in 30 min.

Though, I will note that the people coming in the door as we were leaving (at about 8:30) had numbers as high as 40-something, so I am sure if you get there later, you are going to have a significantly longer wait. They don't tell you but no matter your appointment time it is first come, first serve.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
