Consulate Review: Islamabad, Pakistan
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 14, 2017
Embassy Review : First of all thanks to all the fellow VJ users, your reviews helped me a lot.
So my review is going to be long because i wanna give as much information as possible to help you in all procedures.
My wife sponsored me and she a citizen.

So..My interview was at 8 am slot, i was staying in an average guest house because i tired to be close to embassy, which was in sector G-6/4 like 5~8 min ride from embassy. I reached at shuttle station at 6:45 am, went through 1st security inspection to enter this big hall, where it was a long queue (~40 people) already at US counter. I was at the counter after 15 min and showed my passport with money and got the shuttle ticket (Since you need to show your passport to get a ticket, all persons accompanying you would be separated from here and they have shops and restaurant in the waiting area. Some people were getting tickets for the accompanying people by showing their passport as well, which i would not recommend since next separation place has limited chairs no food or toilets). I jumped in the queue of 2nd inspection to get in shuttle, but 10 min after and only 3 people down to my turn i found out i had to submit my cell phone to pass the inspection.

*There are so signs to guide you though procedure at shuttle station only sheep walking, so after getting ticket you have to submit your electronics to the most left counter by showing your ticket without any charges. keep the slip safe to get your stuff back later.

Getting done with electronics submission i was in the queue again and after 10 min, was in the waiting area with a lot people waiting for shuttle for different embassies. Once you miss your embassy shuttle, it gonna take 40 min to come again, since they have different shuttles for different embassies. US shuttle is the biggest and embassy is farthest of all.
After 2 min ride we reached security zone gate where they asked us to take our tickets in hand and a security personnel gave a quick look to everyone's tickets, and then we were off to go again. After 10 min ride we were there and i was the first one to enter this small cabin, where they asked to show P4 interview letter and took one page out of it and staple a small slip (token) mentioning your number, mine was 336. (just like a token you get in the bank for your turn at the counter)

Then i got out and walked few meters to the embassy building entrance, put my stuff in the scanner and after inspection picked my stuff and left the room. Now i was in the long hall with lots of counters (1 to 20) and was asked to sit on the chairs in front counter 16. Something about this hall: Seats are arranged in a way that your back would be towards counters and you are facing towards wall with many TV's playing videos about US culture, weather, wildlife, and it also shows your token number whenever they call your token number with the respective counter number where you have to be. Counters have glass wall and use mic and speakers for interaction with small space to slide your documents through. Sometimes they announce "American express at counter #", this is when they need someone to help on other side of counter, usually old people or those who find it hard to follow, so they assist you.

*Etiquette & Manners: Since counters are at your back and close to you, so you cloud hear a lot of things going on at your back with other people, but please don't try to look as 'whats going on there!', because i'm sure you don't want to get embarrassed if someone tells you to look other way loudly in people, rather pay attention to the screen and announcements so you don't miss out your call. It actually happened 2 times with a guy and then they asked him to behave.

Now...sitting for 30 min, my token number popped up on screen to go at counter 11: Asked for my 2 pictures, gave me two pages of info about courier service and violence act, asked for p4 letter on which token was stapled and gave back token, then took finger prints. At this counter "American Express" stays to help everyone in finger printing.

Now back to seat...sitting for 40 min, i was called at counter 10: Asked me to write my name and sign the paper he gave me, asked for original documents and language of interview.

Now back to seat...sitting for 30 min, i was asked to be at counter 14 (This was interview counter and a white lady in her 40s was there):

-hello! How are you today?
-do you swear you will tell only truth?
-who is calling you?
-whats her name?
-how did you meet her?
-so it was a arrange marriage?
-can i see few marriage pictures?
-when did you meet her last time?
-when did she come?
-when is she leaving?
-where do you live?
-does your wife has a job?
-whats her job?
-when did she get this job?
-where she lives in US?
-Everything is fine, but you need a joint sponsor only because your wife has worked on this job less than an year.
I asked her how long would it take in visa issuance after submission of documents?
-within 10 days.

And then she returned my original documents and kept my passport. She gave me 221g with only marked on 'joint sponsor'.
i came out of the hall following the same way i entered in the embassy. got on shuttle to reach shuttle station and got my cell phone back.

Advice:
-don't be nervous, interviews are really easy and takes place in friendly environment.
-have a good long sleep night before interview day.
-my interview took place in February, it was cold. 8 degrees C. be prepared for this.
-read your d260 form well.
-book a place nearest to embassy if possible. good practice is, ask the guesthouse/hotel people day before to arrange a car for you to reach shuttle service.
-its best to reach the embassy at the given time but if you are little late just don't panic and screw things up. interviews are not time dependent exactly like no one gonna ask you that you are 30 min late or so. It just gonna delay your turn.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
