My fiancee arrived at the embassy at 1130 even though her appointment was at 1300. They did not allow her to enter and said to come back at 1230. After going inside, she was able to observe the other parties that were getting interviewed. Some were denied and some were approved. One trend she noted was that the ones that were denied seemed very nervous. Some were so nervous that they were visibly shaking.
For our interview, we went over the 70 questions that are posted on this website. We also went over my past marriage since I knew that would be an issue during the interview. The man that interviewed her was a middle aged white man and he was very friendly. That made her relax a bit and they did smile a few times. He did ask a lot of questions about my past. He asked:
My kids names
My Ex wife's name
My Ex wife's ethnicity
My original marriage date
My divorce date
How did we meet
How did we communicate
When did I visit
How long did I stay during each visit
When did I propose
Where was I born
What is my occupation
What's my US address
She answered everything with confidence so her interview lasted only 5 minutes. He asked to see the engagement photos and she gave him the album. He didn't ask to see any other type of evidence like phone records or western union. After seeing the album, he approved the visa. There were so many issues that could have been raised but luckily, he didn't press those details. The main advice I can give is to be confident, maintain eye contact, and stand your ground. He actually asked her my son's names twice. I think he did that to see if her answer would change or if she would doubt herself. Some people had interviews that lasted 20 plus minutes just because they gave a doubtful answer and the consular kept digging away.
In summary, we were over-prepared but it made the process easy for us. |
