Local US CIS Office Review: San Antonio TX

Event Description
Review Date : January 12, 2018
Embassy Review : Our experience was similar to the other recent reviews for the San Antonio office. The interview was surprisingly low key and short, around 20 mins, plus another 10 mins of chit chat. We arrived about 40 mins early and waited 10 mins before checking in. We ended up getting called in for the interview about 10 or 15 mins before our interview time since we were already there. Unlike most people on the forum, we were adjusting from TN to GC, rather than K1 or K3.

I had felt under-prepared in spite of my two binders worth of documents and 40 photographs, but in the end the officer only asked for and took copies our new house title documents since we'd bought a house since filing the AOS and moved. He spent the time re-verifying the information on the submission and checking them off with a red pen, and asking us clarifying questions along the way. He asked how we met, how long we've known each other, the circumstances of my husband's prior green card (it was through his parents when he was a minor) and citizenship (received it a week after we got married, so it showed him as single), where we got married, etc. All very straight forward, just trying to get a picture of us as a couple and verify the info on the paperwork. We mentioned that we just found out we were expecting, and had brought a copy of the ultrasound pics from a few days prior (I'm only 7.5 weeks along), and he congratulated us, took photocopies of the ultrasound for our file, and then we chatted for a few mins about his children and his family. There was a minor issue with our I-864 not having a verification stamp on it (I had filled out and brought a new one just in case), but he said all the documents and supporting evidence was already in the initial packet, and it was something he would have to do after.

He didn't look at or ask for any other documents. I guess we did a good job of sending all the requested documents in the initial filing, or maybe our application was straightforward. He then brought out his stamp, and stamped APPROVED on the paperwork, re-verified our new address, parents names, place of birth, and explained that the green card should arrive within two weeks and if we hadn't received it in 3 weeks to call the toll free number. Since hubby and I have been married for over two years, he explained that I would get a permanent green card, and could apply for citizenship in 3 years "if I feel in my heart it is what I want", lol or just stay as a permanent resident, but he would suggest applying for citizenship.

He then walked us out, congratulated us, and wished us a good day. I was so grateful for the positive experience, he made us feel welcome, was not intimidating and left us feeling (rightfully) like it was a conversation between people with mutual respect for each other. All the anxiety I felt from reading other people's negative experience was the only stressful part of the interview. So I hope more people post positive experiences so others can be less anxious.
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
