Consulate Review: Juarez, Mexico
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 6, 2016
Embassy Review : It's been a long road getting to this point. Our NOA2 was approved on March 25th and it took until April 28th for the NVC to issue a case number. We paid the fees, did the DS160 and waited, and waited, and waited for the "letter" to arrive from the consulate inviting us to schedule the appointment. On June 22nd, feeling frustrated, my fiancee flew to Juarez to have the letter re-printed at the consulate window. The instructions state that residents of D.F. must have their medical and biometrics done in D.F. and we needed the letter to do the biometrics and medical.

The funny part to our story is that the VERY next day after my fiancee returned to D.F., she received the long awaited letter in the mail postmarked May 17, from Texas. The funnier part is that I received my copy in the US 3 days later. Moral to the story-- be patient and the system eventually catches up.

She did the medical and biometrics last week in Mexico City. The 7am appointments went very smooth and she returned to pick up the sealed packet by 1:30.

Yesterday, she flew back to Juarez and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. Its about a 5 minute walk from the consulate and she didn't run into any shady characters. Her interview was at 7:05am this morning at the consulate. At the first window, they asked basic questions (name, my address in the US, etc) and the process took less than a minute. At the second window, they went through our documentation, asked where we met, if I had ever lived in Mexico, what our plans were in the future, etc.

The one area we were nervous about were police certificates. It seems like some people get asked and others don't. We went to the consulate without police certificates. My fiancee has never committed a crime and hasn't been outside of Mexico (except for vacations). The officer never asked for the certificates.

We got approved and she was out of there in less than 2 hours. Now its time to plan the wedding!

Big thanks go out to the people from "VisaJourney Team Mexico" (you know who you are)! Can't tell you how much help its been to share experiences throughout this process.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
