Embassy Review : We had our interview for the K1 visa. I wanted to write some detailed information to help others who are going in for their interview. Here's what happened to us.

We arrived at 7am outside the embassy. At that time they keep everyone away from the entrance. Many others were there waiting too but we were just scattered about (there's no line at this point).

At approximately 7:10, we were made to form 2 lines near the embassy entrance. This is when its important to get your place. Those closer to the front will be allowed in first.

While in line we were given some instructions, a list of items you can't bring in as well as what papers are required to enter. If you don't have your passport pictures (2 min) and your aramex document delivery you won't even be allowed in (conveniently there's a place a block away that will give you passport photos if you forget).

After a few minutes, embassy staff started at the front of the line, checking to make sure you have what you need and checking your information off of their list. They then let you proceed through security into the embassy.

At security, they take your cell phone (you can't bring it inside but you can have it up until you actually go into the embassy and pick it back up right as you exit) and scan any bags you bring in. They are extremely rigorous with these checks, so try not to bring more than the bare essentials. We had a bag with us because we needed to carry all our documents and proof of relationship.

Once through security you are allowed to enter the embassy waiting room and that's where you get your number. Numbers are called twice. Once for staff to go over your specific required case documents and again when its time for your interview.

The wait for us wasn't very long. We were 3 in line outside so we had a very low number.

The first time our number was called we approached the window and were asked to supply our documents. This person was impatient and not helpful. She actually asked us for things that were never mentioned. Luckily we were prepared - we brought anything and everything we could think of.

Specifically we had a brand new police record made right before the interview. She asked us for it. We brought all the army records. She asked for that too. It was never mentioned before. Please if you are an EGYPTIAN MALE bring any army records. We also needed the receipt from our visa fee payment and the passport photos, which we supplied.

First document check done, then we went back to our seats to wait for the interview. Again it didn't take too long. I think we waited maybe 45 minutes and our number was called for the interview portion.

All in all we were asked only 4-5 questions. They were:
1. How did you meet?
2. How did you propose? Was there an engagement party?
3. Have you met your fiancé's family? Do you have any relatives in the US?
4. How do you communicate with each other? What social media do you use?
5. What are your plans for when you get to the United States?

Our CO was very polite, nice even. She was patient while my fiancé answered the questions. She offered to look at some photos we brought (we printed out about 50 from the various visits). She looked over a few of them and we commented about when the photos were taken.

In the end she said we were going to be in administrative processing and kept my finances passport.

We were done with the entire thing by 9:30.

The process is smooth, the staff (excluding the one who reviewed and took our documents inside) were all very helpful and polite. Come prepared with everything and arrive early, that's my advice.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
