Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 6, 2016
Embassy Review : My interview date was April 5th 2016 at 1:00 PM. At first, it was supposed to be 10:30 AM, but changed for unknown reason. I was a bit relieved because I did not have to drive through Montreal during rush hour, which lowered my stress by a lot.

If you are driving in Montreal the same day as the interview, you could always park at the underground parking lot at the medical, while getting your results. Unless you miss the street, like i did, the consulate is a 10 minutes walk max. Its only a small street that you wouldn't even guess that the consulate could be there. The door is hard to miss though, there is that american eagle seal right over it.

Once you are there, its quite simple. Follow the instructions and there will be no trouble. Enter the door when the guard tell you to (not the friendliest one around for sure...), show your appointment letter to someone, he will give you a number then wait in line for the screening. Other than your coat/documents/wallet, they will put everything else in a tray, store it away and give you a ticket number. Be sure not to lose it, ore you will have a hard time getting them back, i am sure! Next thing they do is send you to an elevator. You can wait there for a few minutes and will get packed with people. I am glad that I am not claustrophobic or I would have had a bad time. And I am glad that nobody had a bad odor either, made things easier.

Once the elevator is up, you will follow a guard to the waiting room, take a seat on a cheap plastic chair (if you have back pain already, good luck...), and wait until they call your number. The person there asked me for my passeport, birth certificate with translation, marriage certificate, I-864 and the 2014 tax transcript. They ask for originals only, be sure that you have them with you. Once they have the documents, they take your fingerprints and send you back to the waiting room. I got it at 1:00 PM, and my interview was finally at 3:30 PM. So be ready to wait for a while! You might be able to bring a book for the wait but I cannot guarantee it. Finally got called in and it took 5 minutes max to be done with it. He looked at the documents and asked a few questions:

1 - Where are from?
2 - Did you live outside of Canada before?
3 - Did reside in the united in the united state more than 6 months before?
4 - When and where did you meet your wife?
5 - Where are you going to?
6 - Have you been denied entry to the United States before?

Just look the interview in the eyes, don't look too much stressed, honestly, it's way easier than we can imagine it, and answer truthfully. He then gave me my documents back and the welcome letter and told me : "Welcome to the United States, your visa has been approved!". The joy, satisfaction and the pressure release that those words did to me is unique. All that was left to do is wait for being called and go down the elevator, grab my stuff and leave. Yes, the wait was long but there was a lot of people this afternoon. I was not the last and i was #21.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
