Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 10, 2016
Embassy Review : Had my interview this morning at 740. stayed at the Days in Montreal Downtown, was very close, I took a cab there, but ended up walking back, about 10 min.

My interview went very moothly, at first. I had the young guy everyone talks about, I was the first one for him that day so he was nice and friendly. His first question was how to pronounce my last name, as it looks quite complicated. I told him and said i cant wait to change it to my fiances very short last name, no hiphonating for me! He laughed and swore me in, then asked the standard had i ever been in trouble at the boarder with the police or my parents (this seems to be a common joke for him as ive read it here a few times !), if it was our first marriages.his address.. honestly thats al i remember him asking! He didnt actually ask me anything about my fiance except where he lived which i thought was strange. I made a comment about how thick my folder was and that i must have over done it a little and he made a joke that i probably missed something cause everyone does, i laughed and told him i dare him to find something i missed, which he laughed at. He didnt ask me where/when/how we met, how long weve been together or anything like that. He got distracted with my passport i think ... now this is where it got complicated. ..

My biographical page wasn't laminated, which i had been told by the boarder that it was okay, and ive had it for almost 5 years, and had 2 work visas with it and crossed land and air many many times with it. Only once had i every been pulled over for it when driving accross, and they called passport Canada and said that it was fine, so i thought it was! He told me that he cant put the visa in it until it was laminated, and that the boarder can be more leinant than they can but thats the rule. My heart sank, and i asked if that was going to delay me and he said yea but not much, i just have to get a new one and mail it in ... and this is where i paniced because i dont have time to wait for a new passport then mail it then wait for AP .. so i asked him if i could get the one i have laminated and he said passport Canada i right around the corner i can ask for an emergency one, but he highly doubted that they could laminate it there. And with that he said heres the instructions on how to mail it, as soon as we get it we will put the visa in it ... he never said approved buuuut im going to take that as approved!

I went outside and called my fiance in tears, and wandered around until i saw the passport office and went in, told them what happened and amazingly, he laminated it on the spot.. it took 5 min !! javascript:emoticon('') I was so happy i cried again ! So, i rushed back to the consulate and told the guard what happened.. and this is where i got mad. He told me that i couldnt go back in, that i would have to mail it and that if they let everyone drop off the documents they forgot that it would be chaos... Okay.. i didnt forget anything ! so i told him that, he still wouldnt let me in, out of frustration i was still crying, and he told me to stop crying and just mail it in and wait.. so i asked for his boss, and he told me "whatever you can ask the girl whos checking people in see if she lets you in" .. so once again i explained, showed her my DS 160, and the letter they gave me saying to mail it and she called up and asked if i could drop it off, smiles and said its your lucky day, go right on up and go right to window 4 they're waiting for you. So up i rush, and they called my name (which was odd since she didnt mention my name when she called, i must have been the only one that day without a laminated passport haha ) and handed it to a middle aged man who appeared to be a supervisor, and he told me he was glad i got it resolved and i apologized and he told me it wasnt my fault, i wouldnt have known and I asked if that means everything is okay, and its approved, he smiled and said it will be, we will email you when its ready!!!!!!! ...

I was in and out of my first interview in less than 20 min.. another 20 fixing the passport, and then 5 min getting back in and dropping it off..

All in all, it was very smooth, the security guard was the only one who wasnt nice and helpful, granted im sure hes heard everything in the book!

CEAC says AP right now, but hopefully it will change to ISSUED soon !!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
