Embassy Review : Preparing for interview:

My interview was scheduled for Nov 5. The doctor sent in my medical results on Oct 7. On Oct 21 my spouse received an email from the consulate reminding us to do medical exams. He wrote back on the same day telling them that I had already done it and that results had been sent on Oct 7. As we didn’t hear back from the consulate at all, two weeks later I sent them another email to confirm that they had received the results. No word from them until the day before the interview, when I got a reply to my message to the consulate. In the email, they said that they had not received my results and that I should come to the interview normally and later contact the doctor to find out what happened. Without any delay, I called the doctor and told him what was going on. He promised to contact the consulate immediately to clarify things. An hour later, the doctor sent me a whatsapp message telling me the consulate had found my results that that everything was ok. Wow!

The “pre-interview”

After filling out the paperwork that Alex handed out, I was called in by one of the COs to go over the documents. He asked why I had asked the doctor to contact the consulate about my results. I thought, “what?!” The CO seemed to totally ignore the email exchanges about the medical exames before the interview. I told him the story. He asked me to see a copy of the email I received the day before. I didn’t have it. He excused himself and went in the back to check it with someone. From the windows, I could see both going through the consulate inbox. The CO came back and said literally, “We didn’t send you anything, we only replied to your inquiry.” I thought again, “what?!” then said, “Ok.” “Better leave it at that,” I thought. The CO finished authenticating copies and gave originals back to me. He then told me to wait to be called again.

The interview

It was quick and simple: three or four basic questions (How did you meet? How long have you been together? What does he do for a living?) and “You’re approved”. The CO was really friendly. In fact, I have always had very good experiences at the U.S. consulates, Nogales, Rio, and Brasilia.

Next, I went to the post office to pay for passport return postage. All passports are mailed back to applicants. We cannot pick it up ourselves. On Nov 11 I was on the plane heading to the U.S.
