We arrived to Naples 3 days prior to our interview to take advantage of the city and Valentine's day weekend. We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast very close to the American Consulate, the name is "La Dimora di Nettuno". A small B&B but very quaint, clean, spacious rooms, breakfast included and excellent service at a very reasonable price(highly recommended).
The Medical Appointment was automatically scheduled by the embassy for the day before the interview. As stated on the Consulate instructions found in the NVC page, we arrived before 8:30 (8am to be exact). They had a number generator machine and a button marked C for Consulate visits. There were 11 people ahead of us already, we waited until our number was called and walked up to the window assigned which is strictly for consular medical visits. The girl at the window asked for the appointment letter and my husband's passport (the beneficiary)she told us to have a seat. After a few minutes, they took my husband to a room where they drew a vial of blood to test for Syphilis (this is standard for adults). After another hour wait, they called him to do his x-rays and after another hour they called him to do the last medical consult where they asked my husband a few health related questions and administered the necessary vaccines. We paid a total of 232 Euros which included the medical visit and the vaccines my hubby needed (MMR and Diphtheria. We finished the medical visit a little before noon.
It was a very easy process, consulate staff were very friendly. The CO herself was so sweet and lovely.
Consulate Interview: The interview was scheduled for 10am, we arrived at 8am and they let us in. We had to go through airport style security and had to leave our cell phones with the police security in the front gate. They allowed us to come in with my bag which contained all of our case documents. They gave us a number to collect the cell phones later and a number for our queue in the consulate.
They first collected our documents (after patiently waiting in a queue with 8 people ahead of us) all original civil documents with translations. There was a small mistake on my hubby's birth cert. translation which created a bit of anxiety for us but at the end didn't play a significant role in the actual interview. They also requested the original signed affidavit (which they had) and the girl receiving the docs asked me for my 1040 (tax form) and W2 for 2014, I did not have this because I had provided tax transcripts but fortunately I had brought copies of my 2015 W2s and she gladly took them (I suggest you bring your tax forms if you have them). Remember, better to have extra stuff than miss some stuff and delay your case.
They asked us the basics: our age, how we met, where we live, they asked me (the petitioner) where I work? Had we each been married previously? did we have any kids? Where has my husband lived before Italy? And that's all. They didnt ask for one picture or one plane ticket (which I had plenty lol) in fact, I never even sent any pics to UCIS nor NVC so I figured they would ask for them at the interview, and nope...
The consul lady said: congratulations, you are approved and visa will be issued in 5 days!
We actually received the visa one day after the interview via DHL. We signed up and paid the extra 30 Euros to have it delivered at home. |
