Local US CIS Office Review: Washington DC Review Topic: cis_topic Event Description Review Date : August 1, 2015 Embassy Review : Our interview was pretty straightforward and a lot shorter then expected. The officer was relaxed but still professional and friendly. We had our 18 month old son with us so it was a bit tricky getting him to sit still as we answered the officers questions. After we were sworn in, he asked us each to state our names, date and place of birth, parents names and dates of birth, he asked to see our ids. He asked where we met, why we decided to get married two weeks after I entered the country, we told him the truth.The plan was to get married from the get go but baby came and threw off the plan, so we decided to just make it official while he was still small as it was important to us. He asked why we decided to stay in US instead of Canada, and again we told him the truth, my husband is in school here, much easier for me to relocate as I work from home instead of vice versa. Also, I think it helped that we got married in October and didn't file paperwork till February. We told him we were very undecided during that time before we filed, so much so we had filed for both US and Canadian passports and socials for our son to ensure he was set wherever we went. he asked about our pics where they were taken and when etc....whom from each other's families have we met, did we have pics...who are they...then he advised that he will be making a recommendation for approval. Then he asked if we were planning on travelling, we said yes we were over due for a vacation. He advised to wait till I get the actual green card as border officers will see in system I am permanent resident and therefore my ap will not be valid. Then he said my green card will be conditional as we have been married less then 2 years. But 90days before the two years is up we can apply to have it extended and conditions removed and in 3 years from today's date (our interview date) I can file for citizenship. He asked if we had questions and then we said our thank you's and left. The entire interview took about 20 mins, so in total we were only in the building for 40 minutes. Very smooth...we were impressed. I have to mention the location was in Fairfax, VA but that option isn't available above. When we got home ours later, I checked our status online and sure enough our i130 petition was approved and our new card was being produced then changed to welcome notice mailed. I should include we had everything on that checklist that was included in the interview notice and aside from some of our pictures and our ID's he didn't ask to see anything but I guess it was helps to be prepared just in case.
