Consulate Review: Egypt
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 29, 2015
Embassy Review : I (the petitioner) did not attend the interview. This is our review of how it went:

The interviewer focused most on: the circumstances of us meeting/getting married. To give you a bit of background: We met online in summer of 2013, I flew to Cairo in Dec 2013 and then a couple weeks later we were married in Jan 2014. Our red flags are: We were together for less than 6 months before we married and married the first visit. Age is not a red flag (I'm a couple years younger than him) and we have similar education/career levels. Neither of us have kids or been married before, and neither of us have applied for a visa before. Here's how it went:

*CO asked some basic questions about where I work and what my day is typically like*

*CO asks about when we met and why we got married so quickly*
My husband answered along the lines that both our families are religious and especially his family would not have accepted us unless we had a short courtship/I couldn't stay in Egypt with him without us getting married.

*CO asks what my family thought of us getting married so quickly (my family didn't attend wedding)*
My husband explained that I didn't have my father's blessing. CO then brought up religion again in regards to pleasing my father and my husband said it's something we have to deal with when he gets home, but we wanted to do the right thing by getting married (referred back to first answer)

*CO asks if my husband was going to convert to Christianity*
He answered No and the CO left it at that.

*CO asks how we communicate*
My husband talks about how many hours on average we skype/call per day as well as the times of day that we talk.

*CO asked for pictures from our visits*

*CO asked for updated Affidavit of Support*

CO then told him he was approved and would get the passport back within 10 days. The whole interview took 15-20 minutes.

The interviewer had a bit of an intimidating attitude and tried to act skeptical/poke holes in answers. Overall though it wasn't a bad experience because my husband was confident and he answered honestly.
Rating : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
