Consulate Review: Ukraine
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 22, 2015
Embassy Review : I attended the interview with my Ukrainian fiance and her teenaged son. The lady who took our papers was extremely helpful in getting everything organized, she even took out scissors to cut the passport photos to the correct size for us. We waited about 45 minutes for the actual interview with the consular official.

The official swore in my fiance and her son, asked basic questions about how we meet, asked her son if he and I spoke about his moving to the USA, and then told us we were approved. He was very kind and quite funny at times.

The visa was delayed as my fiance had to take a TB test, which lasts 8 weeks. The CO issued a temporary denial on that basis, but once her test results were done, the medical center informed the consulate and they issued the visa within days of getting the test results.

A surprisingly good experience with all the staff there, really great customer service, especially for a government office.
Rating : Very Good

Embassy Review : First interview cancelled the day before by office. Took them 6 months and congressional followup to schedule another one.

We brought our 10 month old with us, the interviewer actually said to the baby, "is your mother telling the truth?" Disgusting behavior, I felt like we were in a Kafka novel.

Took them 3 weeks to process the vaccination paperwork they asked for at the interview. 3 weeks from the day I dropped it off at the front door.

I'm glad my wife got approved, but this office is a disaster.
Harassment Level : Very Poor

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
