Consulate Review: Bucharest, Romania
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 20, 2014
Embassy Review : It was my fifth experience at the US Embassy in Bucharest (I have been there before 3 times for the J1 visa and once for the tourist one). I was scheduled at 1 pm, but got there at 12:30. I wouldn't, however, advice you to get there too early because you can't get in earlier anyway. I was the second one in line and there were only 7-8 people waiting outside (they have different hours for non-immigration visas). A couple of minutes before 1 pm, one of the guards came outside, checked our passports and invited us in. You are not allowed to have your phone/laptop/tablet with you, so you're gonna have to leave all of those at the entrance.
After this step, you are entering a different building and you have to take a seat until your name is being called at one of the counters. I got called last for some reason and at the first counter there was a Romanian lady who checked my documents to make sure I have everything I need. She was not incredibly nice, but not too bad either. Apparently she thought I was missing a financial document (tax return) which it turned out I didn't. Anyway, after giving her everything I had, she sent me to a different counter to pay for the visa (you can pay it in lei/dollars and it is 265$/901 lei). After that, I returned to the counter, gave the lady the receipt and she told me to take a seat and wait for the consul to call my name. I had waited for about 20 minutes and then he called my name. He was really nice and laid back and smiling all the time. Which, obviously helped me relax a little bit more. He asked me where and how did I and my fiance meet, how long we have been together, if he visited me in Romania, if he met my family, when did we get engaged (we weren't technically engaged yet but he said it was ok). Also, he wanted to know when we are planing on getting married, where are we going to live, what will I work there and if my parents are planing to attend our wedding. Then he looked at the stack of proofs and pictures I brought with me and said we are a cute couple. Then he said my visa was approved, gave me back the proofs, my old passport (after cancelling my tourist visa), the birth certificate and told me my visa was approved and wished me good luck. I got there at 12:30 and left the Embassy at 2: 20 pm. So, almost 2 hours total but everything went nice and smooth.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: Atlanta
Event Description
Entry Date : 2014-10-13
Embassy Review : I had my POE in Atlanta on the 13th of October 2014. I was a little scared knowing that my POE it was going to be in one of the busiest airports in the US, but the new International Terminal they built made things quite simple. I got there around 8:3o in the evening and it wasn't busy at all. US Customs took about 3 minutes and then I was invited to take a seat and wait for an officer to check my documents. After 15 minutes I was called and got my passport stamped. So everything took around 20 minutes and I made it in time to my next flight to Jacksonville.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
