Event Description

Embassy Review : My husband was adjusting from K-1 visa, and the interview was short and sweet. We were directed upstairs to the waiting area, and only waited about 15 minutes to be called into the interview.

The immigration officer (IO) was very nice. She asked us for our IDs, put us under oath, and only asked a few questions: how we met, when we met, when we got engaged, when we visited each other, and whether we had children together (just for documentation purposes, not a judgy thing). She wrote down all the dates we gave.

Then she asked for the evidence we brought, so I showed the pictures, joint bank account, joint health insurance, and joint tax return, and she took the copies of all of those. I also offered to show some lesser evidence, like a letter from my dad saying we lived together & some mail my husband got with our address on it. The IO read the letter but didn't keep a copy, and wasn't interested in the mail. She didn't even want to see our marriage cert.

She then said that she didn't have my husband's permanent file so couldn't approve us on the spot, but once it arrived in the mail she would approve it, and estimated about 2 weeks for that. Then she said congratulations and we left after only about 10 minutes!

HOWEVER, we did run into a problem after that. 2.5 months later my husband still had not received the green card and the online status was still "interview has been scheduled." Long story short, we ended up making an Infopass appointment and the IO (different woman) said it was "under review." (I gathered that just meant it was on the To-Do list.) She said to contact them again after 90 DAYS!!! We left feeling unsatisfied and defeated... but then the next day our online status changed to "card is being produced"! Whew.

So other than that ridiculous extra wait time after the interview, our experience was pretty good.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
