Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 4, 2014
Posting for those who requested to share my US Embassy interview experience. Ladies, here it is.

My daughter (7 y/o) and I arrived at US Embassy at 5:30AM for our June 3, 2014 7:30AM appointment schedule.

I asked the guards where is the queue for the 7:30 fiancee visa appointment, then went to the back of the last person in line. There met new friends, chika chika while waiting.

A few minutes before our scheduled appointment, we were told to move to the next point where we’re told to prepare passports, DS-160 confirmation page, and appointment confirmation first page. They put our passports in a ziplock plastic while they stapled our documents altogether and we’re told to enter the door.
Upon entering, we were to pass the scanning of our things. They asked us to put everything including the contents of our pockets and submit for scanning. Then entered another door.

On the first window, I was asked to present same thing as was asked in the entrance, then they gave me a checklist of documents to present for interview. The lady there gave me a cue number 6163. Same number for all the steps that follows. They told me to enter Door 2. There I dropped my DS-160 and appointment confirmation page. Then was told to wait for number to flash.
We went to the waiting area where chairs and LED boards are setup so you can monitor for your number to be flashed. While waiting, I compiled the following documents altogether so it would be easier to give it when asked. The following is the checklist they gave me.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS
>>Valid passport
>>NSO birth certificate
>>NSO cenomar or marriage certificate
>>Updated NBI clearance (for Travel Abroad)
>>Affidavit of Support (Form I-134)
>>Proof of relationship with the petitioner
PHOTOCOPIES
>>Latest Income Tax Returns (Form 1040)
>>Latest Withholding Tax Statement (W-2)

6163 flashed on the board so we went inside passing through door 2. By the way, still passing through scanning lol.

On window 43, I was asked by an American consul what is my cue number, my name, birthdate, my daughter’s name and birthdate. Asked if I applied for a visa before, or if I worked abroad before. I answered NO for all the questions. Then was instructed to put my left fingers (except thumb) for finger scanning, then next were the right fingers… and two thumbs. Then he told me to have a seat and wait for my number to be flashed again.

Fast forward.
6163 flashed on the board, and we went to window 53. It was a Filipino consul.
Me: Good morning po.
Consul: Anong pangalan? (O di ba suplado, di man lang nag good morning too haha)
Me: Raniela Mae ……..
Consul: Birthdate?
Me: May…..
Consul: Ilang aplikante?
Me: Dalawa po.
Me: Opo.
Consul: Anong pangalan niya?
Me: Ericka….
Consul: Birthday?
Me: November…..
Consul: Sino ang nagpetition sayo?
Me: Matthew…..
Consul: Kelan ang birthday?
Me: August…
Me: Sinabi ko kung kelan ang first day hanggang last day niya.
Consul: Nung nagpunta ba si Matthew may ibinigay ba siyang engagement ring sayo?
Me: Opo.
Me: Hindi po.
Me: Thank you po.
Consul: (Smile lang siya haha)

Fast forward ulit, after maglunch at nagresume ng 1:00PM… 6163 at window 62. Eto na ang American consul.

Me: Good afternoon sir.
Consul: Good afternoon. What is your name?
I was asked for my birthdate, my daughter’s name and birthdate… then was instructed to raise my right hand and read the oath posted in front, on the side of the window. After reading, he began asking.
Consul: Who is your petitioner?
Me: Matthew….
Consul: When is his birthday?
Me: August….
Consul: Where is his present address?
Me: 4110….
Consul: What is his job.
Me: He works as….
Consul: How do you communicate with Matthew?
Me: Told him about it…. Tapos nag interrupt siya nang inispell out ang L-I-N-E… and told him yes sir, that is an application that we use for messaging. Tapos type ulit siya sa computer.
Consul: Has he visited you?
Me: Yes.
Consul: How many times?
Me: Once
Consul: When is that?
Me: Sinabi ang dates mula dating hanggang uwi
What does Matthew mean with The Bear Family? (nakakunot ang noo ng consul)
Me: Oh, The Bear Family. He is Papa Bear, I am Mama Bear, she is Baby Bear… so we are the bear family… (slightly natatawa habang sumasagot)
Consul: How is the weather in Minnesota?
Me: According to him, and verified by my friends Google and Wikipedia, Minnesota is the coldest place in America especially during winter.
Consul: Exactly! So why are you moving to Minnesota?! (Naisip ko loko loko ang consul haha)
Me: Because that’s where he lives!
Consul: (Isinara na ang folder) Alright, be seated and wait for your number to flash. Thank you.
Me: Thank you, sir.

Hehe...
Rating : Very Good

Hello and congratulations on successfully arriving to the end of GC process. I am still waiting. Would you be kindly share when did you receive interview letter, if the letter asked you to go alone or with spouse? what questions were asked from you during i-751 interview? Did they tell you after interview if you are approved or not? Most people are approved without interview, do you know why they interviewed you? THANK YOU very much

Hello. I received my interview letter some time around late November 2018. The letter stated that if I filed with my spouse (in the basis of marriage) to bring him along with me because he will also be interviewed. The questions were just based from the documents I submitted, mostly questions to update their data. It was the reason for interview because my case has been submitted July 2017 so they wanted to know if there had been any changes in anything since then. I also did not have interview for my adjustment of status so I thought it could also be a reason. The officer did not tell me upfront if I was approved or not, her words were "everything looks good to me, and I will submit this for approval". She gave me a piece of paper saying I attented my interview and to wait for further notice and that it was not a proof I got approved yet. I had to file for Outside Normal Processing Time because I haven't heard anything since until Feb. 17, 2019 when the website updated that my card was ordered Feb. 15, 2019. Good luck on your journey.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
