Comments : Pulled up to the booth at the Thousands Island crossing and handed the cbp officer DH and Ds's U.S. Passports, and my passport and envelope. The officer was joking around with us about making his job more difficult and giving him extra work. He asked about DH and my jobs, if we had a house in the USA and had we sold our house in Canada, then told us to pullover on the left and to go in the main doors and wait.

Once inside a different officer asked me to double check the info on a piece of paper (spelling of names, address etc.) i sat down for 10 minutes and she picked up the sheet, then came back with a piece of paper. I had to sign in the box on both sides and put my fingerprint on it. A few minutes later I did my digital finger prints, and she took my picture. A couple minutes after that she came back with my passport, and stamped it. She informed me that I had to update my address whenever I move, and gave me a piece of paper to get the keys to our truck back and we were on our way.

We were there about 20 minutes total. About 15 minutes was us waiting for them to process stuff, and 5 I was actually doing things. Once we were inside they didn't ask any other questions.

Embassy Review : I arrived at 8:40am and went right in. A woman checked my Loomis registration then I went though security. I brought my phone, and they tagged it and gave me a tag, it wasn't a big deal. I went down stairs to the elevator and went up by myself. Once I got to the 19th floor the receptionist looked at my interview letter and gave me number 23. Saylin's drawings were accurate, check them out.

At 9:20 I was called to window 3. I gave her my originals of my birth certificate and marriage certificate (I had done EP), then the I-864s and transcripts. I brought the past 3 years as that's what I submitted to NVC, but the only took the most recent years (2013). She took my fingerprints gave me the sheet about domestic violence and then I went to sit down again. I was at window 3 for about 15 minutes total.

At about 10:20am I got up to use the washroom. As I was walking to the washroom my number was called to window 7 which is on the way to the woman's bathroom, so I skipped the bathroom trip. It was the corridor with a chair and coat hook that many others have described. I set myself down and read the paper in the window. I was asked the following questions:

-Who is sponsoring me?
-Who is James? (Our co-sponsor, Dh's grandpa)
-How long have we been married?
-Have we lived apart this whole time? (No)
-When did he come to Canada?
-Do we have any kids?
-What does DH do for work?
-What do I do for work?
-What does DH plan on doing once in the USA?
-What do I plan on doing in the USA?
-Have I started looking for jobs yet? (Said I've googled stuff to see what's out there, but I haven't pursued or applied for anything yet)

This is where it got a little hairy. She asked if I had anything to show what my plans were once I got there, I was still thinking along the lines of work since that's what we were just talking about, but I think she meant general domicile stuff (lease etc). I initially said no, because I don't have anything work related and that's what I thought she wanted. Her demeanor changed, and I got the sense that was the wrong answer. She typed for a while, and I racked my brain. After a minute or two of typing I said "I have a lease and stuff, is that what you meant?" She said yes, she'd like to see that. I also gave her the receipt for the rental truck DH used to move our stuff down earlier this month, and the packing list he gave to border agent when he crossed. I also offered other domicile stuff I had such a vehicle registration down there, she said she didn't need it.

She typed for a couple more minutes and them said that she would be issuing me a visa today and gave me a Welcome to USA letter. I asked about the $165 fee, and she gave me a sheet about that too. She told me that when I crossed the border I would be pulled aside and to plan for or extra time, then said I was good to go. I was at the counter for about 10 minutes for the interview.

I went back down stairs, gave the officer who was sitting at the desk behind the scanners my tag and he gave me my phone and I left. By the time I walked back to the hotel (10 minutes) my CEAC status changed to issued and the wording underneath said it was in administrative processing. By 1pm the wording under issued changed to being in final processing at that it should arrive within 5 days. I was in the embassy for about 2 hours total from start to finish.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
