Consulate Review: Taipei, Taiwan
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 28, 2014
Embassy Review : Interview was set at 7:45am though the consulate office won't open until 8am (weird). My wife and I waited outside until 8am to enter and went to the 2nd floor (immigration visa section), submitted all documents at the first window. Waited about 20 minutes before "pre-interview & doc check" window with a nice lady with short hair and glasses - very few questions and a smile plus fingerprint scan later we were sent to the 3rd floor (US Citizen services) to pay, and it was a mad house - bunch of people trying to get some kind of service and we waited patiently to pay for the IV fee. After payment we went back down to 2nd floor and waited and listened to other people being interviewed/grilled and watched cartoon on the TV (kids came in earlier so they switched from CNN to Cartoon Network).

When it was our turn to interview it was already past 9:30am, the interview officer was very nice, had a neat set of silver cuff links he said he got from Mexico (said his wife was a Mexican-American), the interview was pretty short, again mostly asking me what I did, football team (go Colts!), and more fingerprint taking for my wife, and waiting for the computer system to process. We were missing some documents that I forgot to bring and we were asked to bring it next Monday between 8am-11am, but we were told that we are good to go.

The docs were printed and given to my wife, she dropped it off and they took her passport along with the docs. The passport was returned to my wife 3 days later (Monday drop off, Thursday receipt).

Overall a painless, though long wait, process. I got to chat with my wife the entire time and enjoyed the quiet time without our smart phones.
Rating : Good

POE Review: Chicago
Event Description
Entry Date : 2014-09-21
Embassy Review : Landed around 2:30pm, the lines were long but not too bad due to the fact that USC can now go through automated machines. The first USCIS officer put my wife's packet in a pink folder, checked me in, checked her in, took her finger scan, and asked us to pick up our luggage. After picking up luggage we had to go through customs line and the officer saw that we had the pink folder and asked us to go to LINE 2 - red section where they check people's luggage. The officer at LINE 2 took our pink folder and dropped it off at a desk on the side and asked us to put our luggage in one area and wait. We waited for about 20 minutes or so before another officer asked my wife to sign her name on a card and took two index finger prints on the card (both sides).

Overall very painless, and depending on the number of people waiting it takes about 2 ~ 3 minutes per person and only one officer is working the pink folder desk.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
