Comments : I waited for over 2 months and the infamous "packet 4" never arrived, so I called the embassy to make sure I could get my letter right there at the Consulate in CDJ, they said I would only need my passport & case number to get it. That same night I gathered the butterflies in my stomach and some courage and requested the appointments for both biometrics & interview. I booked plane tickets to arrive 1 day before my appointments so I could go get my letter. I also booked an appointment for the medical at Servicios Medicos de la Frontera (by phone) the same day I would request the letter.
To my surprise, 2 days before leaving for CDJ I got the packet 4! I could not believe my eyes... one less thing to do in CDJ.

I arrived almost at midnight on Jan 1st, 2014. I stayed with an amazing family, friends of friends with which I will be forever grateful because I didn't know them and they did everything to make me feel like home.

MEDICAL. The next day (Thursday), I went to get my medical exam at 8am. At my arrival, someone asked for basic information and some paperwork (passport, ds-160), then they directed me to x-rays, then blood tests. After that I had to go and wait in this room for a physical medical examination (wait 20min); in the mean time, they take your weight and height. At my turn, a nurse directed me to this room and asked me to change into a disposable hospital gown and told me a Dr. would be there in 10 minutes. Yes, get ready to flash all you attributes to the Doc. The doctor came in (a woman) and she asked me some general questions about general health, history and use of drugs. After that I changed and went to the Vaccination section. Here you DON'T have to take any vaccines, but you still need to get stamped, make sure they are very aware you are a K1 (if so), otherwise, they will charge you an arm and a leg for vaccines you don't need at this point. I went to pay (I believe $310 USD) and they told me to pick up my results between 2-4 PM and so I did. I bet you have heard this a million times, but DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE!

BIOMETRICS. On Friday, I had my appointment at 11:30 at the CAS, which is at this plaza like 4 minutes away (walking distance) from the Consulate. I arrived -of course- 15 minutes late with the heart in my hand and ready to apologize & cry to the police to let me in, but they really don't care much. They let people in every 15 minutes, and they just asked me to get in line and get in with the next group. There they take your documents - the packet 4 letter is your golden ticket here- and your fingerprints. In a few minutes you are out, I may have spent only like 30 minutes there.

APPOINTMENT. I had my appointment on Monday, Jan 6. I left my phone and ipod at these lockers located to the right of the Consulate building, they charged me like 10 pesos or so. I fist was directed to this other facility to get my documents checked and in order - again, the letter, the letter!-. This was about 4 minutes walking distance from the consulate. Then I went back, got in line and went through security. No food allowed - not even gum...
After that, someone checks your documents and gives you a number, then you have to wait at this room that seems like a hospital waiting room. You have to pay attention to the screens all times, because the numbers are called randomly.
When my number came up, I had no idea what was next, I thought it was another desk where they would ask for more info, but turns out I was at the actual interview! The consulate officer went straight to the point and asked me how we met, when and where I met my fiance, what I do for living, what he does, if I have met his family and how many times we had seen each other before becoming engaged. All of this while he looked at the HUGE binder of evidence that we sent and also looking at the computer when giving him dates and places - to confirm I was saying the truth, I guess. I was so grateful I didn't realize I was at the interview until this woman started to ask questions, otherwise I would have been even more nervous.
After that I saw her writing a huge 'cancel' on my previous visa and she gave me instructions on how to pick up my passport. That meant I was APPROVED! I was SO relieved, and I felt like all the work was worth it - and this is not even the most rewarding part of the whole process! I went back to my temporary home and waited--- this was hard--- as I was calling DHL and looking at the tracking number every hour after the 2nd day of the interview.

For the record I did not go out to explore the city or anything similar. Finally on Friday (4 days after), I saw that my visa was ready for pickup! In less than an hour I went to pick up my passport, and booked the first flight to NYC. I left the next day from El Paso.

Comments : Crossed the Juarez border by car. I was asked to wait at this station by the US POE checkpoint and had to pay a $6 I-94 processing fee (BRING THE EXACT AMOUNT IN CASH, they do not take cc neither give you change). After a quick customs check of my purse, everything went smoothly & within 20 min, I was on my way to the airport at El Paso, Tx.

Comments : I received a potential interview waiver notice on June 17, 2014. They also stated in the letter that due to workload factors, my case would be delayed 6 months from that notice. And exactly 7 months later, on Jan 26 I received a call from this really nice lady from USCIS Florida saying that I was missing pages 2-4 from my second medical (The one that is actually only the vaccine transcript), & that she's send me an information request notice in order for her to be able to approve my application.

I remembered that in the instructions, it said that If you had a full medical examination done within one year of your AOS application, you only had to sumbit pages 1&5. Being pg.1 your personal Bio info and pg.5 the actual vaccine transcrpt.

To make a long story short, she ended up looking into my first medical (done in Juarez, Mex.) and saw the info she needed. Then she said the sweetest words: Never mind, you are approved & will be receiving your card within 7-10 days.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Sometimes these cases are being processed by people who usually don't process these applications, so keep in hand a list of what you submitted & why, so nobody scares-the-hell-out-of-your-immigration-status & you are able to explain what you did & why.

I waited about 10 days and I received my green card in the mail. This expires in 2 years.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
