Comments : We were interviews twice on the same day. The second time beneficiary and sponsor separately.

Medical was mailed to them and Police report was submitted via email a few days later and any paperwork submitted later will result in a delay of 2-6 weeks from the date they get everything.

Emailing them for status is a waste of time as they'll just say to wait.

Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 26, 2014
Embassy Review : Here just the interview part:

When called in, we both went in and an American man speaking Portuguese (strongly accented) started asking my fiancee (beneficiary) some questions in an aggressive way. He did not seem to understand the Portuguese word for my profession, when she answered what my profession was.

the accented Portuguese and aggressive demeanor of the officer only made my fiancee more nervous than she already was and neither were communicating smoothly.

Within a few minutes, the officer stopped the interview, went back and came back within 5 minutes or so. He then asked us come back at 2pm (5 hours).

When we came back we were interviewed separately with me (sponsor) going first. A lot of detailed questions. My answers were not really important. They wanted to see if my fiancee, interviews later, would respond the same way to detailed personal questions or not.

Of course she did and we were approved by being told what to do next. No "Welcome to America" or "Congratulations" or anything.

The second interviewers were different from the 1st person and there were 3 of them with one asking the questions and probably training the other two. He did ask the other 2 a few times if there was anything else and they made some suggestions to ask me questions, which he did.

The entire interview process had a disorganized feel to it and I think we were training fodder for new people. I realize training is necessary, but it is unnerving when you leave your life plans in the hands of a process that is not confidence inspiring and somewhat disorganized.

Due to a prior missed flight we did not have the medical in hand for the interview. But this is no problem as we have up to 1 year to get it in and she went in the same afternoon after the interview to her medical appointment.

If you need to bring in any missing documents after the interview, just speak to the girls with the red polo shirts by the entrance downstairs and they'll get you into the 2nd floor, past everyone else, to be able to go to the window and submit what ever it is.

The entire process outside of the interview process itself was very good and very friendly. The red polo shirt girls are your best friend and helpful.

Edit: Finally got the visa on 4/14/14. We were missing the medical and proper police report on the day of the interview. The medical took 8 days to trael from Leblon to the Consulate and then another 2 weeks for them to acknowledge they had it. Then wait several week after they acknowledge receipt of all pending documents.

State police bons attendences reports are available online and they accept an emailed version.

So it is possible to submit missing documents after the interview date. But be prepared for weeks of delay if that is the case. ANd they will not tell you how much longer it will take or even when they sent it, nor the SEDEX code to track it online.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
