Consulate Review: Tokyo, Japan
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 17, 2014
Embassy Review : Prior to arriving, I called the visa call center to confirm that I can bring my fiance to the interview. He only had to bring his passport.

We arrived a little bit early for our 9 am interview, and I was 23rd in line.
The lady who received my application was very nice.

I brought:
- appointment confirmation
- 2 passport photos
- DS160 confirmation
- Fiance's i-134
- Cousin's i-134
- My bank information
- PH & JP Police Certificate (sealed)
- Sealed X-ray and papers from the Tokyo British Clinic
- evidence of meeting (photos, airplane tickets, letter of intent)
- LetterPack 500 (wasn't needed after all)
- Birth Certificate (wasn't needed, since I already sent out a copy prior)

She returned my fiance's i-134, because he is currently unemployed, and accepted my cousin's i-134 and my bank information.
She unsealed the x-ray envelope, took out the papers from the medical exam, and returned the x-ray. She mentioned that I'll need it in the US as well.
The evidence of meeting wasn't necessary, but she took it anyway for the CO to look over.

The fingerprint lady gave me the option to do everything in English or Japanese. She was extremely patient with my cold fingers, which apparently weren't machine readable.

And then the interview. My consular officer was a lady about the same age as me, and she was very polite with her questioning. She, too, was patient with my machine-unreadable cold fingers.

After the oath, I had the following questions:

- How did you meet?
- Have either of you been married?
- How did you keep in touch when he was in the US? (I added that we visited each other several times as well)
- How did he propose?
- How long have you been in Japan? (I should mention that I'm only working here.)
- So your current job is xxx? Are you planning on working in the US? (A resounding yes. I also mentioned that I haven't told my boss yet, and I'm praying that he will grant me a transfer. the CO laughed and wished me luck.)
- Where will you live in the US?

And that was it. She congratulated me, told me my visa is approved and I should be getting it in a week.
She also kindly reminded me to get married 90 days after my arrival.
Rating : Very Good

any updates on your case?

Nope. Late November 2020 applicants just got interviewed this week so I’m hoping to at least get a March interview notice next month but who knows with Covid and bureaucracy.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
