Embassy Review : Working with Cairo has been a bit of a disaster from start to finish. They are impossible to contact for even the smallest question and the call center that handles the phones really have no information whatsoever.

My fiance went in this morning for his interview and I had practiced with him and prepared him for the possibility of a very tough interviewer. I told him that the interviewer would push him and try to make him make a mistake, and I WAS SO RIGHT. The interviewer was far, far, far worse than I had even dreamed. (My fiance said that the people working at other windows were smiling and laughing while doing interviews, but this man was definitely not like that.)

Throughout the interview, the CO accused him of lying. He interrupted my fiance when he was talking and actually mocked him. For example, the interviewer noted our different religions and said, "Hey I know that Arab men are so pushy about religion. I think you'll be so mean to your wife because she's not Muslim." My fiance said, "No, I'm not like that at all. I love my wife and--" The CO interrupted him and said, "Love, love, love... stop talking about that. I know how Arab men really are."

Later, he asked my fiance to calculate my total income for my rental property over the course of two years. My fiance said, "Hey, I'm not an accountant. I'm a lawyer. I don't know how much that would be." (Who here wants to calculate a large number by 24??) The CO then said, "I don't think you're a lawyer. I think you're a LIAR."

Also, the interviewer spoke quickly and my fiance said, "Hey, my English isn't good. Could you please say that again?" The interviewer said, "Hey your English is perfect. Don't pretend like you can't understand me." My fiance felt like he was just searching and searching for ANY excuse to reject the application.

I am SO proud of my fiance because he kept his cool even when he wanted to reach through the glass and punch this arrogant jerk for insulting himself, his integrity, his entire CULTURE and gender! At the end, the CO said, "Okay, you're approved. I hope you're being honest." My fiance started to ask something and he said, "Hey, you're done. GO." Then he sent him away without giving him the paperwork he needed! After my fiance got out of the embassy, his uncle said, "They didn't give you anything? That can't be right?" and we realized they hadn't even asked him to pay his fees. So he went back to security and they let him re-enter. The CO was rude to him again, but said he had forgotten to give him the papers. He got a receipt and DHL tracking thing, paid his fees, and left again.

Other things he was asked about:

* My full name, my kids' names and ages
* The date of my divorce and when we met. The interviewer got all excited when he found out we met before my divorce was final, but my fiance stayed calm and explained we were just friends at that point.
* About my Sponsor packet information
* He asked what my fiance likes about Utah (where I live.) My fiance said, "I don't know anything about it. I've never been there." The CO said, "HEY, don't you talk to me like that. I'm warning you. I'll kick you out of here if you speak to me that way again." My fiance said, "I've never been there. I know they have beautiful mountains and nice views, but how can I have a favorite thing when I have never visited?"

All in all, he was only inside about 90 minutes from start to finish. He was there at 6:30 am and was one of the first people inside. The status on CEAC remained "ready" throughout and was changed to "ISSUED" within a few hours.

Overall, the result was good but I've never been treated that way in my entire life and I'm sad my fiance had to go through that. He was visibly shaken up by that level of disrespect hours later when he got back to Alexandria and we spoke on Skype. I understand these people are just doing their jobs, but I don't think a LITTLE kindness would actually kill them... would it?

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
