Consulate Review: United Arab Emirates
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 11, 2013
Embassy Review : I had my interview last Sept. 9, 2013. A day before that, my sis and I went to Abu Dhabi and stayed in a hotel near to the embassy. It's practical and convenient I may say.

My appointment was 8am, but we left from the hotel at 6am. We arrived before 6:30am. Second in line! An Iranian couple came first.

Around 7:10am, a security guard came to check our appointment letter and passport. At 7:45am they started to let us in. My sister can't get inside. Only those who have an appointment can get in or American citizens.

I have waited for my number to be flashed on the screen (002) for the first step. A nice lady took all the documents needed. I gave her the following:

* Appointment Letter (returned to me after seeing it)
* Original Passport + copy
* 2 (2x2) photos
* Signed letter of intent (sponsor and beneficiary)
* DS-230 part 1 and part 2 (I signed both and she returned the part 2)
* DS-156 with pasted 2x2 photo (I signed in #41)
* DS-156K
* DS-157
* I-134 with attachments
a. Employment Letter
b. Pay Slips
c. Bank Statements
d. 2010 - 2012 Tax Forms (she took only the 2012)
* Birth Certificate + copy (original returned)
* CENOMAR + copy (original returned)
* NBI + copy (original returned)
* Dubai Police Clearance + copy (original returned)

She didn't asked for any evidences like chat logs, Facebook, Skype, etc. After getting all documents she told me to pay and give her the receipt. I paid $240. She again told me to go to the next window for finger printing. After finger printing, I was told to seat and wait for my number to be flashed again.

I have waited for 5 minutes before my number was flashed. The consul was a young American lady who didn't smile or respond when I greeted her "good morning". She asked me the following:

1. How did we met?
2. In which state is he living?
3. What is his job? (She asked me to describe exactly his job)
4. When was the last time we met in person?
5. What am I doing in Dubai?

The interview was very fast. It took about 2-5 minutes. She then told me to register and gave me a paper for instructions. After that I said thank you to her and she smile at last.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.

** Not all cases are transfered
