Consulate Review: Sydney, Australia
Review Topic: General Review
Event Description
Review Date : June 18, 2013
Embassy Review : Other reviews have covered most things you need, so I'll not add much:

The Consulate is on the upper floors of the MLC Centre (fanstastic views), but entry is on the 10th. There are no publicly accessible toilets in the consulate proper, the closest are on the 9th floor. There is a sign to this effect AFTER you have gone through security, so useful to know beforehand (the majority of the visa applicants on my visit had small children).

The security check on the 10th requires all metal off your person - down to hair clips. It is more sensitive than your typical airport one. There are two lines - USA citizens in one, foreigners in another.

I very much do NOT recommend traveling to Sydney on the day. My original 06:00am flight from Melbourne was cancelled due to fog at Sydney airport, and the replacement flight I was offered would not have got me there until practically lunch time.

The consulate rescheduled me via email for only a week later - make sure you reply to confirm your appointment. Both appointments were for the Tuesday, so that might be a standard (K1 Visa).

Train from Sydney airport has a few stops near hotels/consulate, but there are also shuttle buses if going direct to a hotel. Fare is around $15 one way.

The consulate staff are very professional. The whole process took about 90mins, mainly in waiting between "handing in document phase" and the actual interview.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
