Consulate Review: Bogota, Colombia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 22, 2012
Embassy Review : Visa interview was set for Monday, 10/22/2012 at 7:30a. We arrived at the embassy gates around 7am and walked right up to Gate 3, the other lines are for tourist and business visas and are very long. Gate 3 only had about 4 people waiting in line.

After going through security we were asked to go to window 5 where a nice lady reviewed our documentation. We had a bit of a panic when the lady said the police certificate we brought was not the right one (it said "Procuraduria General" and not "Policia Nacional") so she gave us a permission slip to go outside on one of the internet cafes and print the right version and bring it back before 8am.

After we gave the right piece of paper we waited to be call for the interview with the consul. The lady at the window kept the passports (fiancee and her son), DS156, DS156K and Affidavit of Support with documentation, but returned everything else including the DS230s. This is the longest wait and my fiancee was a nervous wreck. After what seem like an eternity we were called to window 3 at 9:30a.

The interview took all of 10 mins. The consul reviewed all the documentation that was collected at window 5 and didn't ask to see any of the information we brought with us. She asked my fiancee to confirm her name and the name of her son, confirmed their birth dates, who was petitioning her, they asked if I was her fiance standing next to her, how we met, how many times we have seen each other and when did I arrive in Bogota this time around. After that she said congratulations your visa has been approved and will be ready to pick at the delivery location we selected in 5-10 days, but advise us not to buy plane tickets until we had the passports on hand.

All-in-all an excellent experience!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
