Consulate Review: Sydney, Australia
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 18, 2013
Embassy Review : My interview was at 9am and I had been waiting outside the MLC center since about 7.45am (had breakfast beforehand). 8.30am came and I decided to make my way up. By the time I passed through level ten and took the "30 seconds to the U.S." lift, it was 8.35am and I got my IV ticket. Before my ass could hit the seat, I was called to window four and was greeted by a smiling woman who asked for my passport and anything I was asked to bring in. I asked to update the address my green card will be sent to as my wife and I have sold our house and by the time it is produced, we will have moved. I bought in an updated DS-230 in case, so she just copied it from that to the original from my packet. She then handed me back my original civil documents and other additional documents we had sent.

I handed her the items and she asked me to take a seat while she went through it all. About 5 minutes later she asked me back to the window and got my finger prints and said that everything looked in order; unless the consular officer found anything.

So after 10-15 long minutes I was called to window one and saw a young woman looking at me smiling (yet again) and asked for my passport. I was admiring the view at this stage because it was freaken sweet! She asked me to raise my right hand and read me the oath; of course I agreed. She was very friendly and made small talk with me while she did what she had to do. She opened my packet and I managed to get a glimpse of the coveted red APPROVED stamp. I tried my best to not show any excitement just yet and remained calm. She asked me if I'd ever had any issues with police or U.S. immigration, how many times I've been to the U.S., what was my longest stay (on the visa waiver), where we met, how we stay in contact. There wasnt really many probing questions. I answered them (without providing much more information than what was asked for). I did mention that I am working on a transfer with my company (U.S.-based company)... I think that was going to be one of her questions.

She said "the good news is that everything is in order here, so I am able to approve your visa!" and handed me a small slip of paper that says:

Consulate General of the United States

Congratulations
[Name goes here]

Your visa application has been approved.

Generally it will take 5 business days to print your visa and prepare your document package. Once printed, you will receive an email from our office explaining the delivery process and what to expect when entering the U.S. with your documents.

We wish you all the best in the United States.

All this was done and dusted and I was standing outside MLC center again at 9.15am. Woo hoo!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
