Comments : Our timeline could have been 1 to 2 months shorter. I lost several weeks waiting for some instructions that were actually in a previously received e-mail. We also lost a few weeks because I sent copies of certified copies (this was OK for the I-130), but the NVC would only accept the certified copy itself.

Comments : Wife and step-son entered US on July 1. No action on Green Cards until I called USCIS (about July 23). Cards issued July 25, rec'd July 30. Social Sec. Cards should have been generated automatically; they weren't - we had to apply locally. Wife's card came within 3 days.

Consulate Review: Guangzhou, China
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 31, 2013
Embassy Review : We were in the line outside the consulate at 6:50 am and through the first check point (3rd floor) about 8:15. After that I could not accompany my wife and step-son. They were finished a little before 11:00 am. Their "interview" took no more than 5 minutes. They handed over their medical packets and my tax returns, swore an oath, signed a document, and answered 4 perfunctory questions. Then, visa approved! Questions were: (1.) How did you meet? ("My sister introduced us"). (2.) How often have I visited her in China? ("7 times"; I gave her my passport right before the interview so she could show I was with her in Guangzhou). (3.) Do I (husband)speak Chinese? ("A little" - fortunately she did not have to elaborate further). (4.) There was one other similar question but she can't remember it. There were no follow-up questions. We brought a mountain of evidence(photos, QQ transcripts, etc.) but none of it was asked for or used. The interviewer was courteous; he was an American who, according to my step-son, spoke very good Mandarin. From her observation of the applicants that went before her, my wife said that the average interview took around 15 minutes and she could tell that some people were not approved.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
