Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 28, 2012
Embassy Review : It was a great day for me and Sunny/Joy for we both got approved today!

After all the days of waiting and thinking about how the consul would accept my case on co-sponsorship, here I am now as one of those living proofs that USEM Manila does not always deny co-sponsors.

Before everything else, here's a little story about finding a good friend here on VJ and enjoying the journey every step of the way..
I met Sunny/Joy and her fiance Richie through this site and found out we're the same age, filed almost the same date, we both live in QC, petitioners live in the same state and close cities and both are Filipinos by blood. We met and became friends and received our MNL Case Number on the same day and scheduled our interview on the same date too.

Now the day we waited for finally came. Sunny and I met at McDonalds EDSA at 4:00AM and took the cab from there to the USEM. We got there at 4:20 AM and as how we expected it, vendors were around reminding the applicants about the things that are not allowed inside the embassy. From the information we learned from VJ, we already have our things organized so we had no problems during the entry. We waited there outside the embassy until the sun finally came out and the guard called us to form a line for entry at 6:45 AM.

STEP 1: Prepared our Passport, DS Forms and Appointment letter.
STEP 2: Got our lucky numbers. Mine was 6090.
STEP 3: Inside the embassy, a lady approached us and took our papers to be dropped off to window 39.

STEP 4: Waited for our numbers to flash on the screens.
It gave us headache, eyestrain and almost stiff neck! We just stared at it the whole time.

At around 8:20 AM I had my BIOMETRICS on window 43.. and soon followed by Sunny on the same window.
We always make sure we have our seats next to each other every after step. haha!

STEP 5: Waited again for our numbers to flash on the screens.

Honestly, this waiting is the hardest part of the interview.

At around 9:15 AM [I can't remember the exact times anymore] Sunny was called first on window 56 [if I'm not mistaken] and I soon followed on window 55.
I was interviewed by an old Filipino Officer who was very nice and never made it complicated for me. He asked for my NSO Birth Certificate, NSO Cenomar and NBI Clearance and then asked for the Affidavit of Support. I gave him everything that I have for my AOS which were Forms I-134 both from my fiance and his mom.
He asked me in tagalog:
Have I been married before? No.
Have I been pregnant? No.
How old I am? 25.
How many siblings I have? Two.
Have I traveled to any other countries? No.
When and how I met my fiance?
How many times and when was the last time he visited me?

He looked at everything and asked me what is my fiance's job and when did he start working and his course. I answered everything and he also saw all the details of my fiance and found out he is a graduating student. He looked under my fiance's I-134 and other documents and saw the co-sponsor's documents and asked who it was and if they live on the same roof and I answered 'yes' without fear and doubt!

He said the petitioner should be the sole sponsor but since my fiance lives with his mom, it's up to the American consulate if he would consider it or not. And then he took all the papers.
He asked if I have pictures, emails and remittances and I said yes but he said he wouldn't look at it anymore.

He'll leave it all to the consulate.
Had my seat again and waiiiiiiit.....
The Filipino Officer called me back to window 55. He forgot to take my BPI Receipt!
Waiting time again... This time I was getting nervous.
Sunny and I would always have almost the same reactions and same timing of deep sighing everytime new numbers flash on the screens.

STEP 6: Interview with the American Consulate.
At around 11:15 AM, I was called to window 59. I greeted the American Consulate a 'Good morning' and greet me back with a smile. He asked me to raise my right hand and swear that all the information on my documents are true and correct and I said 'Yes'
After that, he never looked at me anymore even for a single moment! He was so serious checking my papers and typing.
It was almost lunch time and everyone is getting hungry and tired. I observed him and he looked so stressed already! He was shaking, maybe of tiredness and hunger.. He was sighing deeply.

While typing and checking on my papers he asked me:
How old I am?
My birthday?
Who is my petitioner?
How old is he?
What's his job?
How did we meet?
After that, he stared at one form and had this very serious look on his face and just silently thinking of something that made me feel really nervous.
He signed something and put a mark on that paper [I was hoping it's the magic word we're waiting for] but I never saw it and I never knew what it was.
After that awkward moment and without asking for my evidences of engagement [which I organized so well] he took my files and said 'Ok, all the papers look good. Have your seat and wait for your number to be called'
I said thank you and he said you're welcome and that was it!
I felt so unsure if it was approval

STEP 7: Releasing.
I was called to window 71. The Filipina Officer gave me the first page of my appointment letter with my number 6090 attached to it and said 'You can go home and wait for your visa to arrive at your home'
I said I chose pick-up and she said it doesn't matter... They are the ones to contact 2GO and all I have to do is wait [for I don't know what - wait for a text message? email? phone call?]
But then, I guess I was approved right?

I went back to my seat and Sunny asked how it was and I was like 'am I approved?' Haha! I couldn't believe it.. And it felt like there was something missing. Maybe because I was waiting for some congratulatory words from any of the interviewers but all I had was 'all the papers look good' and 'wait for your visa'

Sunny's last step was scheduled after lunch so of course I waited for her. She was called to window 72 and never really also received the word APPROVED
But we were!

So that was it. It was a great experience.

Good luck to everyone on this journey! I hope this review helps.

did you show form I-134 for mom inlaws or form I-864?

Hi, MsPinay! Im so sorry for the late reply, I hope this is not too late. I can't remember exactly anymore but based on what I wrote here, it's both I-134 from my then fiance and mom in law.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
