Consulate Review: Jamaica
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 2, 2013
Embassy Review : Our appointment was at 9am on 12/14/12. We were in and out before noon which was great!! I will just cut to the details here.

He was asked:
When and where did we meet?
Who was I with the first time we met?
How often do we communicate?
Have we met each others families?
Where do I stay when I visit Jamaica?
When and how often do I visit?
Where does he work and what was his occupation?
Does he have pictures?
The only evidence they asked for was pictures. I made a photo album that he showed them.
He said it was more like a conversation than an interview.

The reason that I gave a lower rating was because of what happened after the interview.

During the interview he was told that he would receive his visa the following week...
1st email was 12/20. DHL website stated the visa had been shipped.
Their reply was that it was out of their hands and I had to deal with DHL.

2nd email, I informed them that DHL said it hadn't been given to them yet.
Their reply was it will be printed by 12/21 at the latest.

3rd email, 12/24, I stated that there was still no visa.
Their reply was "you were given misguided information" and it should be printed today.

4th email from them 12/28, they say it shows my visa is ready to be printed and be advised we will be closed for the holiday.

5th email, I stated my frustration that I had been told 2 weeks in a row that my visa would be printed and it was not.
Their reply was somewhat unfriendly and pretty much said it'll be ready when its ready.

His Visa was not actually printed and shipped until 1/8/13!!!

So overall our trip to the embassy was great!! Everyone who worked there was very nice and friendly and we had a great experience!!! The communication afterwards was what soured the whole thing.
Rating : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
