Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 25, 2012
Embassy Review : Our experience was much like the others who have posted on this website. Everyone with K1 visa interviews were given a 7:15am interview time, which just meant that that was when we would be allowed into the Consulate. We arrived at 5:45am and there was already a line!
The whole process was pretty simple and actually pretty fast. After submitting your paperwork, you wait for your interview. Each interview was taking about ten minutes, with about 20 minutes or more in between each one. I imagine during those twenty minutes, the officer was looking over the paperwork and getting familiar with each case. We went into the interview at 10:15am. She was very nice and asked if we wanted to speak English or Portuguese, we opted for Portuguese. She asked us how we met, had my fiance ever been to the US before and when we were planning on getting married. After we answered each question, she said our visa was approved!
We then had to go to the post office to pay for shipping so the passport and visa could be sent to us. We paid for the fastest shipping possible, so the visa was printed in the passport the day after the interview and then we received the passport the next day.
Overall everyone at the Consulate was very nice and polite.
I wish you all good luck and approvals!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
