Comments : About the medical: schedule it early because it's very unorganized. You can schedule the medical before the interview date is assigned. The x-ray, physical, blood test and vaccinations are all done in different offices in Asuncion. Then the beneficiary has to pick up the x-ray, blood test and vaccination results and take them back to the panel physician. THEN the beneficiary has to go back and pick up the final report later. So give yourself plenty of time to do all of this. Also, the Ministry of Health doesn't always have all of the vaccinations in stock so you may have to buy some of them yourself, which is very expensive.

Port of Entry Review
Event Date
Port of Entry : Bahamas
POE Date : 2012-05-10
Got EAD Stamp : No
Biometrics Taken : Yes
Harassment Level : 5
Comments : We did POE through the Bahamas. We were the only ones waiting in the secondary area. The first CPB officer had no idea what she was doing. She didn't speak Spanish and my husband doesn't speak English yet so she only spoke to me. She couldn't find his A-number in the computer so we had to wait over an hour while she talked to her boss. Another CBP officer finally came in and said she was doing everything wrong. He took over and redid everything in about 10 minutes. Unfortunately we had just missed our flight but the American Airlines staff were very helpful and put us on the next available flight.

Embassy Review : We arrived at the Embassy at 1:45pm for my husband's interview at 2:30pm. There were about 20 other people waiting outside. We should the guard the interview letter and he seemed confused and told us to sit and wait while he called inside. At 2:15 we were let in through security and entered the interview area where another 20 or so people were waiting. At 2:20, Elvio was called up to the window to hand in his medical results, passport and 1 passport-sized photo. He was not asked for my 2011 tax forms. He sat back down and we waited again. At 3:45 he was finally called back up for the interview. I went up to the window with him. The interviewer took him fingerprints then asked the following questions:
-How did you meet your wife?
-When did you get married?
-Where will you live in the US?
-[holding one of the photos I sent in with the I-130] Identify the people in this photo.
-Where did you go for your honeymoon?

He then asked me about my work as a Peace Corps Volunteer and about my joint sponsor (my dad). Then he had Elvio sign part 2 of the DS-230 and told him he could pick up his passport with the visa in 2 days!

Overall it was very easy. We were out of the Embassy by 4:00pm.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
