Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 6, 2012
Embassy Review : Appointment was at 8:30 so we arrived at 7:15, we were 9th in line. Make sure not to bring a purse bigger than an envelope or they will make you take it to your hotel etc. My husband had to take my purse back to ours (it was the size of a file folder), but he had no problem meeting me inside after. We were let in shortly before 8. They bring you to the basement and then you are all led into an elevator and taken to the 19th floor. Once you arrive you are given a number. I was C-9. You are first called up to windows 1-4, they don't exactly go in order so don't be thrown off. (I was 9 so window 1 had number 1,5,9,13 etc, and window 2 had 2,6,10,14) so if another window finishes first a later number will be called on before you. This was the easiest part of the process, the consolate worker goes through your documents, confirms your address and where you currently work just the basics and makes sure all necessary documents are there.
After this you wait for windows 7 or 8. These get called pretty close in correct order. We went to window 8 where a very nice man interviewed us. He asked if I had ever lived in the US (which I had under an E1 and F1 visas) I was honest and told him I accidentally overstayed not knowing my F1 had run out, and he was fine with that. He also asked what I did for a living and where I currently lived. He then asked my husband what he did and where he lived. He went through all of our documents again, and asked for my husbands most recent tax return (luckily we brought an extra copy). After that he said congradulations and welcome back to the United States. I then asked to hug him, and he laughed.
Over all everyone at the consulate was incredibly nice, and if you're honest with them everything will go well.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
