Consulate Review: Guangzhou, China
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 1, 2012
Embassy Review : most of the questions he got was not related to our relationships, just one or two simple questions, such as "how did you meet each other?" and then he was being questioned for a long time about his major. He is a PHD student from a prestigious university in Beijing, and his major is very sensitive (falls into 221g categories). the VO didn't look at our photos, phone logs or boarding pass, he asked for his CV and asked several questions about his major and the projects he did before.
the whole interview was approximately 10 mins, and in the end he was given a blue slip saying"we cannot issue a K-1 visa at this time, your case needs further administrative processing" (221g slip)no additional material was needed for his case, the only thing we could do is wait.
as you can imagine, how depressed we both were after the interview, but the good news is he was not completely turned down for his K-1 visa, thank god, he got approved exactly one month after the interview. (usually the background check takes 4-8 wks, his was 4 wks) so anyone who has the same situation(received 221g slip), don't give up, just hang in there, you will get approved eventually!!!!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
