Got EAD Stamp : No
Biometrics Taken : Yes
Harassment Level : 0
Comments : I crossed by car at the ambassador bridge with my fiance. This was the easiest 30 minutes of my life. I crossed over around 6:15pm on a Thursday. My papers were processed and passport stamped with I-94 with no questions asked. The officer reviewed the conditions of the Visa and I was out of there at 6:45pm.
Generally very friendly officers inside. Zero hassle or complications.

Comments : Interview was Tuesday April 3rd at 10:15 at the USCIS office in Detroit Michigan. We got there right on time, and we were called in at 10:35am. Friendly lady took us into her office.
We were in the interview room for about 20 minutes. First thing we did was take the Oath. The majority of the interview was a review of the I-485 that I submitted, making sure that all information was correct. Almost every question was asked again. I provided original birth certificates for both myself and husband (they returned the originals) and asked for current pay-stubs from my sponsor as well as any documents we would like to be put on file as proof of relationship. I gave credit card statements, bank statements, health insurance statement, and pictures. (These were optional, she did not say they were required, but I figured to have in there for when ROC comes around). The only personal questions she asked were when we got married, how we met, how long we been in a relationship, what my husband did for work. Most of the questions were directed to me.
She wouldn't give us an approval on the spot, and said that she would look through the file to make sure all is in order and a decision would be made and posted on USCIS site by tonight or tomorrow. She said all looks good so we should hear about the card soon.
Decision was posted later that night, and card was produced and mailed 6 days later. Now just waiting to receive it in the mail!
Overall a very easy process. Bring everything that they ask for on the checklist, and it is very straightforward.

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 23, 2011
Embassy Review : I had my interview on October 19th --- APPROVED!!! :D Thankfully!
My appointment time was for 8:30 am, and I arrived at the consulate at 7:30am. There were about 20 people in front of me and the doors opened just as I got there. (I would advise getting there earlier, I did end up spending quite a few hours in there just waiting for my turn to come up)

You go through security first. Be sure to have your appointment/confirmation letter and passport, you can't enter without it. All people with large bags/backpacks were turned away until they got rid of it. After security, you are sent downstairs to wait in front of the elevator. There was no real order to this. As soon as the elevator doors opened it was a free-for-all, and who ever got on first went up, no sense of line or waiting your turn, so get as close to the elevator as possible.

I was up on the 19th floor by 8am, directed to the cashier window at 14A/B where you show your appointment letter and your given a number (I got C14) and asked to sit and wait to be called up. They didn't start calling anyone until about 8:40, not sure why, so were sitting around for quite a while with no movement.

First 2 windows went by quickly. First window is to provide fingerprints, passport, MRV fee confirmation. Second window called up to is to provide Birth Certificate (original and copy), letter of intent from fiance, and police record. This process was done by about 9:30am. Then I waited until about 11:20am until I was called up for my interview. (The first person in line was done and out by 9:30am, which is why I suggest getting there as early as possible!)

Interview was very straightforward and simple, and took no longer than 7 minutes. I was given back my original birth certificate and had to raise my hand to swear to an oath. I was asked when my fiance and I met, and how, when we plan on getting married, and I was asked about the nature of his business. (I was also asked about a previous student visa I had for the US -- in case anyone else has the same past experience) I was not asked for any evidence of our engagement even though I came fully prepared. The lady typed in some notes into the computer and told me "Congratulations, your visa is approved, you can start planning your wedding!" And that was it...I was out of the consulate at 11:30 am.

I was told to expect my VISA within a week, so I'm waiting anxiously for it! I'm all packed up and ready to go! Good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews! Just come prepared with all the required paperwork and it is a walk in the park (minus the intense nerves until you hear "approved")
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
