PRE-INTERVIEW
Prior to receiving Pkt 3 I had to email the Consulate in Kingston (with the case number) to get status report and was emailed the DS230
(NOTE: Make sure the DS230 is signed because that will push back your interview date)
INTERVIEW PREPARATION
Because I was previously married and had petitioned for my ex-husband we anticipated that the interview process may be intense so we were prepared.
If you have similar red flags please be prepared to be scrutinized.
INTERVIEW:
My Fiance' arrived at about 8:30AM at the Consulate for his 9:00AM interview.
Although he got in early he was the last person to get through for an interview.
The person before him was denied due to insufficient evidence of the relationship so he was a bit nervous.
He approached Window 9 and a lady took his paperwork from him (DS156, DS156k, DS157, I134). She went through them and gave him back some items he did not need from the I134.
While waiting he noticed a short gentleman wearing glasses with a menacing look on his face; he was praying that he would not be interviewing him. As luck would have it he was assigned to him.
1st Question
------------
He was asked was who is filing for you. After answering "my fiance'", he was asked what is her birthday.
He stated the day and month and was asked to give the day, month, and year. The agent laughed and stated that my fiance' is into older women [I'm 10 years older...but don't look it ;)]
Follow-up Questions
-------------------
-How often do you and your fiance talk?
Can you prove it? Do you have evidence of this?
He showed the phone records, travel itineraries and my expired passport showing my visits to Jamaica with post-it notes detailing each trip
-Give full details of you met
He wanted to know why I was in Jamaica when we met.
-He asked if my fiance' had pictures or cards as proof.
He had chosen to carry all his framed photos (I told him 1 or 2 was sufficient) and all the cards/letters I had sent him.
The agent went through his photo album and wanted to details of each photo. He inquired about where they were taken and who was in them (if anyone other than us were in them).
- Does your fiance' work? Where does she work?
TIPS:
My fiance' said to take "real pictures"; candid shots; not just posing, kissing, hugging, etc...
The agent actually commented on some of our candid shots.
Also try to take pictures with each others family not just you and your fiance' (e.g. I went to my fiance's grandmother's funeral and my brother came with me on several trips)
NOTE:
They did not look at my marriage certificate or divorce decree (doesn't mean you don't need it though)
