Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 9, 2013
Embassy Review : I'm writing this a year later, so...we had our interview on September 23, 2011. We arrived at 6h45 and were first in line. Doors opened at 7h30.

In the waiting room, we placed ourselves right in front of the elevator. We could have been in-and-out of the consulate in maybe 90-min. had it not been for the odd procedure by a security guard - he randomly hand-picked the first group of people to go up the elevator. Guess he didn't like the look of us.
Instead we were among the last ones processed -it took us 5-hours - but it was really all just waiting time. We had no complications. Once upstairs on the 19th floor, we got ticket number C11.

We chatted with other couples, exchanging stories. It was actually kind of a nice to have a bit of time to punctuate our immigration journey up to that point.

The first time we were called up, a warm and friendly woman took my appointment letter, passport, and medical results. I was digitally fingerprinted. She asked chit-chatty questions about my work and where we live. She asked me to fill-out a paper copy of the DS-230, (hhhh...despite having filed the DS-260 online - Thank you Visa Journey for that most handy bit of advice). I handed her one that I had already prepared. ***This is key, lots of other couples had a hard time piecing together the info for this form.

Sometime later, we were called up to a different window (this was the very pleasant woman with dreads that I had already read about on VJ) and asked to take an oath. Our original documents and photos were returned to us. We were asked 3 questions:

"How did you meet?"
"What does you husband do for a living?"
"What do you plan to do for work when you get there?"

Then while she was typing, she casually asked me for the date when we met.
Then she said our visa was approved and she welcomed me to the US.

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
