Consulate Review: Switzerland
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 6, 2012
Embassy Review : I flew in to be with my husband for the interview, which was on July 18. We arrived in front of the building by 6:30am. At that time everyone was still waiting in a small park in front of the consulate. Soon two representatives started explaining the process and began calling out names and your corresponding number. Make sure to remember your number as you will wait in line to enter the consulate by your specific number. We were #37, My husband had to hand in his Carnet and I showed my Passport in order to wait in line with him. I think those who were applying salida definitive went first and then those with K-1 or Salida indefinida were next in line. Those who were there to pick up visas were last in line. We had to pass through a few different security check points( no envelopes, flash drives, cameras, belts, lotions, canned drinks, mirrors etc are allowed) We then waited inside a small bunker again in number order where two representatives looked at all documents to make sure everything was in order. After that we were ushered into another room where we had to wait for the next available window. My husband finally got to the window and gave his documents, case #. He then had to wait a few minutes for the agent to find the original documents forwarded by the NVC. They had everything there. He then had to take digital finger prints on the small machine by the window. My husband was then given a small numbered laminated red card was told to go wait inside the consulate. Another check point and then we waited inside a large room with AC. Red card holders on one side, Blue on another. There was also a long line of people waiting to pay the fees for the interview. If you are doing K-1 this is where you would pay the fee. IR/CR-1 interview fees are paid to the NVC (IV fees). We waited about 30 minutes and our number was called. I waited for him in the waiting area.

His interview was done in English as the agent knew very little Spanish
She asked basic questions:
How we met
She asked about specific dates when I traveled to Cuba
Where we stayed when I visited
What I did for a living
Where we got married
Where we planned to live in the US
What our plans were once he arrived to the US
She asked various questions about my family members

He was in there all of 5 minutes and came back into the room where I waited with a slip/pass to come back in a few days to pick up the visa. We were out of there by 10:30.

I read a few of the reviews on here and we were prepared for a nightmare of an interview. I will admit the whole process was a bit nerve racking but nothing out of the ordinary.

My advice to others with interviews approaching…be calm and answer everything truthfully. Good Luck

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
