Local US CIS Office Review: New York City NY

Event Description
Review Date : August 5, 2011
Embassy Review : We had our interview in the New York City office 8/4/11 at 1:45pm. We had to wait about 45 minutes - called at 2:30. After a ~15 minute interview, they told us we'd get an answer within 30 days, which was disconcerting since we were expecting to hear right away! Overall we had a favorable impression from the agent and he didn't ask to see ANY additional documentation. I came prepared with a hyper-organized binder full of evidence of our marriage, all our originals, photo albums, notarized letters from various people, etc. and the only thing the agent wanted to see were our passports. So, I guess that was encouraging that he wasn't suspicious. But, he also asked some tough questions that my husband didn't know - what model car I own (yes, most guys would know this, but my husband is a PhD student in philosophy and it's not his thing!), what kind of car insurance we have (he's on the policy, but he didn't know it was Geico) and what my obstetrician's name is. I'm guessing the agent was more concerned with our reactions to these things and our interactions with each other than with the precision of our responses, but it still made us nervous, especially when we didn't get an answer at the end.

Has anyone else had to wait 30 days for an answer?
Harassment Level : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
