Comments : I drove from Montreal to Colorado. My car was packed and I imported it to the USA. Make sure you have all the paper work that is required for your car. You might pay an import tax. It went well. They customs did not look at my boxes at all. It took about 1h15 to process the visa and also the car.

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 16, 2010
Embassy Review : My interview was on November 16th, 2010 at 11am.

I got there around 10:15, entered the building, went through security (it's pretty much the same security type than at any airport) and took the elevator up to the 19th floor. If you have a cell phone, it will be taken away from you and given back to you when everything will be over. Same for food (unless you are diabetic I think) and probably for beverages too. There are vending machines in the waiting room (chocolate bars, chips, cookies, coffee, soft drinks and water).

There you will receive a number and you wait until they call it (they called mine about 30 minutes later). You go to a window and handle the documents that are asked by the officer who is behind a glass. After checking the documents, the officer sent me to the cashier pay my visa ($350, cash only) and I came back right away for finger prints. I sat back in the waiting section, waiting for my interview, this is then the last part of the process. My interview took place 2 hours later! Most interviews could probably be faster, but still, be patient! You can spend an average of 3 hours there.

The officers for the interview are very nice. It is an one on one interview. I was called to the booth and the officer was behind a window. I had a special guess to observe, the US Ambassador! They both asked very simple questions such as how my fiance and I met, how did he propose to me, when will we get married... It took less than 10 minutes I believe. It got approved, they congratulated me and wished me luck.

To conclude this post, here is my advice to all: bring all the documents you need. Be well prepared! Always better to bring more than not enough! Be patient. I spent 5 hours there. The back and forth process is similar to the medical exam. Bring a book to read, that will make time go faster. Ipods will be taken away too and given back later.

Good luck to you all javascript:emoticon('')

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
