Comments : Filed the I-485, I-130 and for EAD. Mailed using USPS express mail on 12/11/13. It arrived next day on 12/12/13 and I received a return receipt card stamped Chicago Lock Box on 12/16/13.

As of 12/19/13 have NOT received any e-notice via email or text. However, noticed that all checks have been cashed on 12/19/13. At least we know it's arrived and has been accepted! Now comes the wait... :)

UPDATE (as of 12/30/13): I-797C to set up Biometrics appoint. received on 12/24/13. Biometrics set for 1/17/13.

UPDATE (as of 12/31/13): Received I-797C RECEIPTS for both the I-485 and I-130 on 12/31/13.

Event Description

Embassy Review : Really great experience. We waited about 25 mins. after our appointment time, which wasn't too bad. They were moving through the interviews quite efficiently. The interview officer was very kind and considerate but very professional. He took our oath, asked a few biographic questions for the foreign spouse, asked really simple questions re: the marriage, first met, proposal, first lived together, etc. Asked for birth certificate and marriage license. The officer was very efficient and kind. Overall, it was really a nice experience. As it should be! If you have a legitimate marriage and you've followed all the instructions every step of the way during the application process exactly as required, everything really should be fine. When a marriage is legit, it shows! Overall it was a very good experience. We were a bit nervous, as can be expected for most couples I think. But once we started talking the the officer it felt natural to talk about our relationship. Which is good! Always be honest, bring every document required and then some, just in case, follow all application instructions precisely and be patient. Our process actually wasn't long from start to finish. From beginning to end, about 3 months. But those 3 months felt like an enternity! Just hang in there, always have a lawyer double check all your paperwork to make sure everything is in order and be patient! Once it's all said and done and you're approved it's the most amazing feeling! I took the wife out for a celebration afterwards and we shared lots of hugs with family. Remember that getting your green card is an honor as well as a responsibility. Take it as seriously as it deserves! You are no longer a guest but then a resident here! We were so thrilled that we were able to walk out proud! Also, a word of advice, we didn't use a lawyer but we did have a lawyer friend always double check our things to make sure nothing important was missing. Also, we would call the USCIS customer service number anytime we had questions and they were always very helpful! When in doubt, just call! Everyone I always spoke to was courteous and professional. Good luck to everyone who is going through the process!! Hang in there! It's so worth it in the end!
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
