So, being a little anal, arrived at 6:45, prepared for a line. Was the first one there. Joined about five minutes later by a fellow VJ'er, but at least another ten before the line started. At 7:30, when the doors opened, there were only about a dozen people in line.
Screening was a breeze, and downstairs to wait in line. This is where the previous advice was a little lacking. Sure, I was first in line outside, and seated closest to the elevator...but when tsecurity came to open the elevator, a flood of people just pushed right in front. I was glad of the advice to go towards the left, as that is the side the doors start to open, but reception is not on the left, it is straight ahead. I managed to score applicant one.
This is where my intel was less than stellar...there was aflood of people, but only five of us had interviews and were given numbers. Most people there are for visitor visas, and are just directed to stand in another line and wait.
After above five minutes, I was called to window 1...the lady was very nice. Took my appointment letter and my passport. Then my police check, medical, my original and copies of birth and divorce, my pictures. Then the bio page, and support documents. Only the 134 and tax return needed for us. Fingerprinted. She gave me the X-ray CD for my records. Then over to the waiting area to wait...at this point it was 8:15.
And wait. And wait. Not even a light on at number seven. All five appointments prescreened...and called up at 8:45.
A lovely lady had me read the oath and took my fingerprints for the confirmation. She asked about my fiancé...how we met and stayed in touch. As I wasn't born in Canada, she asked when I came over (I was four). Asked if it was first marriage for both, any children, how long we'd been engaged and what our wedding plans were. I admit I was a little nervous, as we were never formally engaged, just talking about it for years...and have no big wedding planned (who can with this lengthy process). She approved me and gave back my originals. She did not ask to see a single piece of evidence of relationship. I can only assume what my fiancé sent, plus all my passport entries that are in their system were enough.
Out by 8:53. Huge sigh of relief and ba-da-boom, done.
