Comments : After USCIS messed up big time on not mailing my RFE letter, and a month was wasted on them just getting the letter to me, I had hoped that it would be smooth sailing after that. I gathered the requested RFE paperwork and mailed it to USCIS within 3 days for receiving the request. And then I waited...and waited...our application is now outside of processing times. I called to put in a service request in that regard. They apologized that it is taking so long and asked me to be patient. On Oct 21 I got an update of a decision!! I was so excited. I went online to check the status and it read: "As per your request, your application has been withdrawn. If you are ever interested in pursuing a visa in the future you must file a new and pay the fees again." I could not believe it. It did not seem possible. Of course I have not ever requested a withdrawal. I called USCIS crying, telling them to check my file, listen to recorded phone calls- I did not ever request withdrawal of my application! They told me the only thing I could do was write a letter to USCIS.
How incompetent is this system?? I did write a letter but it yielded nothing. So I went to my congresswoman. She agreed to help me right away and with in a week our case was reopened and approved!!

Consulate Review: Switzerland
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 4, 2014
Embassy Review : So we got there early, wait for officers to come, wait for names to be called- all the same start as other reviews (see cuba reviews here: http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php?cnty=Cuba&cty=&dfilter=5&topic=K1+Visa )
When we got inside, we handed our paperwork at one window (I was nervous about the affidavit of support papers, but they didn't ask any questions about that) and then went to another to pay the 240 CUC. I wish I had known we could pay 240 USD because that would have been better/easier, but I didn't know that was an option so we payed the 240 cuc, got a receipt and went back to our paperwork window to give it the him. He gave us a laminated pink little card with a number on it and told us to go into the waiting room to wait until that number is called.
When our number was called, we both went up to the desk and were interviewed together. Our interview lasted about 10 minutes, but it felt long and we were both nervous. A big thing that helped our nerves was that we practiced questions (that I found on this site by reading through all the past interview reviews of cuba petitioners). I think that is really important. Our relationship is legitimate, but that doesn't mean we wont ever hesitate on a question or not know the answer to something, so I think it is best for all to practice. Here are the questions she asked:

what job will you do in USA?
when did you propose and how?
why are you choosing to marry in USA instead of cuba?
are you working now?
are you part of the Juventud, or were you ever? ***
how did you meet?
what was her reason for coming the first time?
have you ever traveled out of cuba?
who is in this and that picture, where was it taken?
what does your family think of all this?
how many times has she visited, when, and where did she stay?
when did she arrive (in order to be here at the interview)?
are you here now legally? (question to me, I said no, I came through canada)
what language do you communicate in?
what is your rent cost? (question to me)
who does she live with?
are your roommates okay with him coming? (question to me)
how long was she in university for?
have either of you ever been married or have kids?
She seemed like she was about to ask another question, but then she said, okay, your application is approved (!!!!!) here is this paper to bring back in a week when you pick up your visa (!!!!!!). we were sooo happy.
Some of the questions were directed at him and some at me, but both of you should be ready to answer any of those questions. ***about the juventud, he answered no and no even though he was part of that group as a youth. He ended his membership when we decided to do papers.
Note: most of the people who work at the interest office are cuban, but the interviewer is ALWAYS an american. that was comforting to me somehow. Also, you can get interviewed in spanish or in english.
All in all, the interview was stressful because the nature of it. The interviewer wasn't mean to us or nice to us, she was just serious. In the days leading up to the interview, we practiced questions and reminded each other, that this interview is just to prove that our relationship is real. And it is, so we don't need to worry.
So, the next week I checked the website to see if visa was ready for pick up and it was, so he picked up the visa exactly 7 days after our interview (not everybody is this lucky- check on site if it is ready before sending him).
Next, booking a ticket. This can only be done in cash (CUC) with havanatur, and he must bring his visa and passport in order to book a ticket.
And that's all I got! Please feel free to ask questions. :-)
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
