Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 26, 2013
Embassy Review : Had my interview Sept 25; stayed at the Travelodge, it was a great location to the Consulate $98.00 per night, very small but it served its purpose. Did the pre walk to the consulate the night before, arrived at the consulate by 6:45 am the day of my interview. There was one other lady in line with her daughter; she did not have Loomis and was turned away to call them at 8 am to sign up. At 7:30 am the security guard came and let us in one by one; took my interview letter; passport and courier confirmation; went thru security and down the stairs to wait by the elevator. Out of all the people in line only 7 of us were cleared to come through and go up at 8 am. Went to the back left of the elevator then immediately to the left and waited till the 14a/b cashier opened us and was given the infamous C1. Sat and waited 10 mins till I was called to window 1; the lady was very nice; took finger prints...took medical and two photos along with a copy of my passport bio page...then nothing else. She changed the documents to reflect the change to my married name and then sat back down for appx 20-25 mins. They did not start interviews till 8:45 am....

was called to window 10; did the oath and finger prints...I had a lot of questions; when were we married, how did we meet, when did we meet, when were we engaged, asked if this was my first marriage, asked about my husbands prior marriage, any kids, where did he work, when was he injured on the job...she then said that we will need a joint sponsor?? I said what? she said my husbands tax return only shows xyz in income...which is his military pension...I told her that he has a non taxable benefit he receives as a Federal Marshall and pulled out all of his monthly benefit statements which clearly shows he is well above the poverty level....she then said she found what she was looking for...asked if I have any criminal past or border issues...said NO then she said OK well then I am approving your Visa...explained the courier process and stamp in passport...she recommended me NOT to cross the border on my Nexus until I receive my Visa and activate it....I was finished at back at the elevator by 8:56 am....pinch me is it real ??? AGAIN like everyone has said; make sure you have all your papers and study Saylin's maps....I was relieved that I had all my husbands stubs and bank statements etc...along with two extra photos ( which I previously sent and were never requested in packet 4) I brought them cause I had them...once you get there and chat with people in line..it is not as intimidating as you originally think.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: CDN-USA Border
Event Description
Entry Date : 2013-10-02
Embassy Review : I crossed at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge on October 2, 2013, arrived at the bridge at 4:20 pm, half hour wait in line. When I approached the booth the CO asked me what where was I going; said to activate my CR1 visa; he looked over my passport; asked the standard border questions; where does your husband live, when did you get married, how did you meet...he was writing some info on an orange piece of paper then put my passport and the paper in a tube that got sucked into the secondary office, he radioed to the CO in the parking area that I was arriving; gave me a small slip of paper to show the parking CO. The parking CO told me to park and go thru double doors; there I showed another CO my small piece of paper and was told to sit in the waiting area; it was busy and there were appx 16 people waiting. After 20 mins my named was called; I went up to the CO who was very nice and pleasant; took my sealed packet and asked me when I was married, am I immigrating today or just activating my Visa; said moving in today; he took two index finger prints and made me sign twice in a small box area on a form, then took my photo...and told me to sit back down. About 10 mins later he called me back up and showed me the stamp in my passport, he explained removing conditions etc....gave me a piece of paper to sign and I was given a copy: Notice to Conditional Permanent Resident Alien. I told him I have to import my vehicle and he took me over to another desk area and had another CO take care of my vehicle import; this CO was not from NY State and was not sure of the paperwork; this took the longest time but he was very nice and pleasant as well. Chatted about Texas as his wife is from Texas. Once we completed the paperwork for my veh and it was stamped, I was done. From the time I approached the Border booth to the time I left it was 1 hour 10 mins total. All in all it was a great experience
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
