Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Today I had my interview at the Embassy in London!

Appointment was scheduled for 8:30am, I flew down the night before into London City airport and stayed in the Travelodge in Vauxhall, which is about a ten min walk to the embassy.

I left the hotel around 7:45am and arrived at the embassy just before 8am, and followed the building round to where the visa section was.
A lot of people already waiting and queuing up. Got up and asked for my passport and my appointment confirmation page, then directed towards security.

They asked me to open my phone and open any app to prove it was a working phone, then quickly through an airport type security areas.

(Ps the doors are freaking heavy!)

Up to reception where I was told by the first person just skip and go through the US citizen line which I did and was warmly welcomed but told to stand to the side for 4 min as my ticket wasn’t ready. (The lady actually said 4 min 😂 and laughed at how awkward they are with the ticket system)

Anyway I got called after those 4min given a ticket and told to take the lift up to the 1st floor then turn left and left again where I sat waiting to be called.

Maybe about 5 min passed and was called up where I was asked to show my original civil docs such as birth certificate, marriage certificate and police certificate. But I got them back pretty much straight away.

The gentleman then asked me when I was flying, and I responded “Today!” To which he got very confused, then I realised he meant to the USA lol! Oops!
I explained I was flying back home today as I work tomorrow and he just laughed and continued on. He asked me if I could fly without my passport and I said yes I should be fine, and he said “good cause I’m keeping this!” :D

He asked had either of us been married before, confirmed how long we have been married and then handed me a leaflet about domestic abuse and trafficking.

I sat back down and waited maybe 10-15min for the next step where I was called up, asked to take an oath of truth then the interview began.

- how did you meet your wife
- where is she now
- when was the last time you saw each other
And my answer lead her to ask “what does she do for work”

She works remote so was able to visit for an extended period of time recently.

She smiled and looked genuinely excited for me and said, “I’m going to approve your visa today! Just make sure the medical gets done soon!”

I swear if there wasn’t a glass window separating us I would have hugged them! Haha

I did have to confirm I had the medical booked but it seemed like everyone who was there was facing the same issue, and they said they’ve been having this issue as the visa medical place is extremely busy!

Arrived at the airport for my flight home a full 5 hours early (10:45am)
So it was a quick in and out!

Phoned my wife in tears of joy, so excited!!!
